For a bridal shower gift, I got a little cookbook called "Romantic Dinners for Two," which has three or four different menus. The one I'm thinking of preparing for V-day is grilled steak with a red wine and mushroom compote and pesto twice-baked potatoes. My husband is definitely a meat & potatoes type of guy, and when I made this meal once before, it went over really well. I'm thinking of pairing it with a mixed baby greens salad with candied walnuts, mandarin oranges, crumbled blue cheese, and a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. And my favorite local bakery will supply the dessert -- chocolate pastilles. Definitely not a light supper, but one day "off the wagon" certainly won't kill us.

We'll be cooking at home. Valentine's is not a good time to go out. Many restaurants serve a limited menu that night since it's so busy. I'd rather go out another night, have more choices and less people!

The only thing I know for sure is that our meal will involve the 1 pound container of lump crab that we have sitting in the freezer - yummmmm...no matter what we make, it will be fantastic!

I like to do appetizers for our special meals because we like to eat after the kids are in bed, so we don't eat until 8 or 8:30. I think I may try a Martha Stewart appetizer that sounded delicious and easy. You make a tomato sauce, put it in a shallow dish and put in a large piece of fresh mozzarella. You heat it in the oven until the cheese begins to melt. Then you dunk in nice chunks of crusty bread. Sounded wonderful!

As for dessert, my husband suggested that we let Ben and Jerry do all the work http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif . We treat ourselves to B&J's Fudge Brownie Sundae once or twice a year - yum!

Now I just need a couple of side dishes and we're set. Oh - and there will be champagne as well.

My DH will be on a business trip till Friday night, so I am saving my menu for Saturday. I am going to make the steak with onions from 1-2/98, because he loves steak and I NEVER make it. I am going to bake the cheddar-potato biscuits and make a vegi and something yummy for dessert.

I'm having a good guy friend of mine over for a "singles" valentines party! I am going to make some pizza dough and have a bunch of special toppings like roasted veggies, feta and mozzarella, anchovies, etc..and we'll each make our own pizza. I'll make a really nice mixed green salad and I think for dessert I'll slice up some fresh fruit and have it with Ghiardelli chocolate! Simply elegant! -Becca

My husband requested a rather un-romantic menu. We're having chicken and dumplings. Along with champagne, and cheesecake for dessert.

I wanted to go out for dinner on Wednesday at a nice restaurant, but it might be a little out of our budget right now, so I was thinking, since I can cook, why not??
I was thinking of some cheese fondue with veggies and bread and then some kind of chocolate dessert.

That's so funny...I'm doing fondue on Wed. evening, as well!
