I'd like to make this dessert for an Italian-themed Father's Day dinner my neighbor is hosting. There will be kids there as well as adults who don't drink, so I was wondering what substitutions I might be able to make for the kahlua. Or, if based on your experience, it's just not worth making the substitution, let me know. Thanks!!

I have had success with using the Kahlua flavored syrup for coffee instead of liquor. I just mixed it with the espresso like the recipe required.

I don't remember how much is used, but I think it was just a small amount, and I don't think I used all the liquid when I made it. I'd probably just leave it our or use a bit more espresso. If you have Kaluha flavored syrup, you can use it, but I wouldn't go and buy it just for this recipe.

The recipe calls for 1/2 cup, which I feel is pretty significant. I think I'll look for the kahlua syrup, unless there are other suggestions; I can always use any leftovers to dress up coffee!

When I sub for Kahlua, I use strong coffee, a little vanilla extract, and some brown sugar. It makes it a little richer w/ the combo. I've always had pretty good luck. I just kinda guesstimate--I have no "formula," just make sure the liquid measure matches up. The only thing I can see being a problem is that a liquer is often quite thick & the viscosity might influence the final product.
