View Full Version : Pierced?

Do you whistle in the wind from the holes poked in you? Or is your flesh unpunctured? Are you contemplating a(nother) piercing? Did you decide to get pierced, or were you one of those babies who got gold studs popped in practically as soon as you were dried off?

Me, I've got three open holes in my ears plus two ancient closed-up ones, and a pierced left nostril. My mother thinks they're awful; her mother was one of those pierced babies, and instilled in my mom a loathing of such things.

Dang. I meant this to be a poll. :( Polls are fun. And now I can't delete it.

Okay, here are my poll options:
- Ears, just one each
- Ears, more than two
- Belly button or nostril piercing, with or without ears
- "Other" facial or visible piercing
- Pierced in the Naughty Bits
- Never pierced
- I have let all my piercings, however many they are, lie fallow lo! these many years

I've got 3 holes in my ears too, though the last 2 are closed. I also have one in the top of my ear.

I have a pierced belly button too.

Three holes in my ears. I always wear a very small hoop, wire really, in my third so it doesn't close up.

Now...I am thinking of two piercings. DH= wants me to do my navel and I'd like to do one more.... But need to get more ink first.

One hole per ear. They were double-pierced at one time but the second holes are pretty much closed up now.

Geez... math... let's see. A bunch are closed up and at this point the only ones visible are the single piercings in each ear. (I'm so sedate and proper these days) ;)

In my heyday, however, had a navel piercing, 6 holes in my left ear (2 in the cartilage) and 3 (4?) in my right ear.

Piercing is addictive! Then I ran out of places that I could pierce and still be employed...

:D

Just one in each ear. No plans to do anymore...

I have absolutely nothing against piercing, but tongue piercings, along with other delicate parts, I just plain don't understand because it looks so uncomfortable!

My SIL has not pierced her ears...her mother thinks it's barbaric. Of course she's 38 years old now and could decide on her own...

I have two in one ear and one in the other. I'm not sure if the top is still open because I haven't worn earrings in so long. I'd really like to get my nose pierced. I've wanted it for over 10 years now, and I'm seriously considering it after DS is born. Hmm, how will my new suburban neighbors react to a mom of two with a nose piercing? :D

Oh, I chose to have mine pierced, and my 85+ year old grandma recently got her ears double pierced. :)

Hehe, I always wonder the same thing about my navel piercing. I think I will have to take it out once pregnant.

Have had my ears pierced 3 times yet still unable to wear anything in the holes. My body just doesn't seem to care for metals! :(

I have 2 holes in each ear, but I so rarely wear earrings, I have no idea if they're still functional or not.

One night about 8 years ago, I was at the salon getting my hair done, and Jim and I were in the midst of a major disagreement. I thought "I'll show him!" and I got a 3rd hole in each ear.

Problem is, my earlobes aren't that big, and it was in the cartilage area. It hurt like freaking hell. There was a 6-year-old girl sitting in the seat next to me, watching intently. I tried really, really hard not to cry.

Got that? Getting back at my husband by getting my ears pierced. ;)

After I got home, and after sufficient (or so I thought) time had passed for the pain to subside, my ears were throbbing. I pulled the studs out and bled like a stuck pig. :o

Lesson learned. :p

Hmm...

I have one hole in each ear. I used to have like 4 more holes (one more in my lobe, and 3 holes in my cartilidge, but then they closed because they were always infected - and the reason why is because on the cartilidge you should NEVER get it pierced with a gun - it will never heal properly. You should always use a needle. In fact, all piercings should relaly be done with needles, but the earlobes are just skin flaps, so usually thats ok)

I have one ear project (I think that's what it's called) It goes through from one side of my top cartilidge to the other, horizontally.

I also had a tongue ring, which i loved. When I hit 22 though, I figured I was too old for it and removed it. I had one with little jewels all over it and one day looked in the mirror and realized a jewel was missing - I must have swallowed it!

I have one hole in each ear that, while not closed, are rarely filled with earrings.

For my 20th birthday I got my nipple pierced. It didn't hurt nearly as much as I was expecting it to. I only left it in for a couple of months though because I hated how I looked assymetrical with no top on. Who knew symmetry would be such a big deal, must be the engineer in me.

I have and SIL/MIL who think exactly the same way. Every Christmas, when I inevitably get a pair of pretty earrings from DH or someone else, she laments the fact that she can't find pretty earrings and that all clip-ons look like old-lady earrings (so she's willing to cut off the circulation in her earlobes for an entire day, but not willing to put a hole in them... ). Yeah, she's 32. She could go get her ears pierced of her own volition if she wanted to.

Sorry - that's a whole other co-dependent issue. :o

I have three holes on my left ear and two on my right. Have had my ears pierced since I was 10, but I got the three additionals while living in Ireland in 1994. I don't know why, but I thought the whol assymetrical thing was cute. I would wear silver hoops of graduated size - smallest at the top, then medium, then larger.

But then a couple of years later I decided that there were a lot of cute earrings out there, and that very few of them really went with the whole additional-hole thing. They are still open, but I rarely ever wear additional earrings.

I did get the pleasure of meeting my future ILs with all those extra earrings, though. They loved that. ;)

Never been inclined to pierce anything else, although I do think that teeny-tiny nose piercings are kind of cute on the right person.

One hole in each ear. At one point, I considered an extra hole in one or both ears, but then changed my mind. I have a hard enough time trying to decide which earrings to wear as it is! :D

No other piercings, tattoos or other miscellaneous body adornments.

But, hey, SC just had a tattoo law passed. Very soon, it will be legal to get a tattoo without having to go out of state. No, I won't be at the front of the line. :D

I like cute wacky earrings too, and the thing is I actually prefer them only one at a time. Two cats with dancing feet, f'rinstance, on either side of my head, seem a bit much, somehow, but one, paired with two studs or (just now) a couple of those open body-piercing rings, makes me happy.

Also, if I lose one cute earring, I can still wear the spare.

I guess it is a good thing that I am not even remotely of the engineering brainset, being so right-brained I probably walk assymetrically.

Adele, do you know anyone who kept their belly piercing while pregnant? All the women I know had theirs work loose and pop out as soon as they began to show (if they didn't remove them ahead of time) and the ones who wanted the pierce back have had to have it redone after baby.

two holes each lobe.
I'll wear all holes filled if the earring is very small, otherwise, one earring per lobe.

No I don't. I imagine it would 'pop' once you started to grow. Probably safter to remove it earlier.

I can't imagine have this belly with a ring on the end.

One of my friends kept hers in the whole time she was pregnant (gained 36 pounds, too!). She had a ring in hers, not the barbell. She did say it got really tight for a little bit, but the skin stretched and it was okay. She still has it and is now PG with her 2nd child.

I have a hole in each ear, though I rarely wear earings... I have my navel pierced... and I used to have my tongue pierced.

Currently have 1 in each ear, and a belly-button ring.

Have had in the past - tongue, labret (never fully healed right and became too annoying), two in the left eyebrow (graduated from college with no plan, freaked about never getting a job, and grudgingly decided to remove them), 1 in each nipple (my body suddenly decided to reject them both after they had been perfectly healed for about five years  )

And yes, (in case you were wondering)...my parents were thrilled!

Ears only--one in the right, 3 in the left--the extra 2 I did myself with an embroidery needle. I go through phases where I really want to get my navel pierced, but I'm not currently slim enough (I mean, if I do it, I want to be slim enough to show it off and have it look good, KWIM?). At other times, I acknowledge the fact that just because it looks good on Madonna doesn't mean it's going to look good on me.

I do tend to wear mismatched earrings a lot. My current fave set is two diamond studs in the upper left ones, a gold hoop (which is actually my wedding ring, I had it made into an earring when I got divorced) in the lower left, and then a small gold & turquoise ball one that used to be my mother's (they were clip and she lost one at 16, was heartbroken, stopped wearing earrings until she turned 60 and I took her to get her ears pierced, and she made the remaining single into a pierced for me) in the right. Which is more info than anyone needs to know about my accessories. Sorry about that.

And meanwhile: Mary Kate, where are you???? :p

Technically, two in each ear, but I haven't worn earrings in the 2nd hole in probably 15 years, so not sure if it is still there.

Same for me, plus one in my left cartilage that's closed up too.

I used to wear teeny hoops that hugged my ears every day, but these days, I only wear earrings when I want to dress up a bit.

i've got one hole in each lobe, 1 in my belly button, and 1 in my left eyebrow. i'm lucky that i have a great job that let's us have piercings. people in our training dept have their entire faces pierced, i'm talking both eyebrows, nostrils, bullrings, lip piercings, that little place above your nose and between your eyes, i'm talking the whole shebang! and management just seems to love it, always complimenting us on our new piercings whenever we get them!

two holes, each ear lobe. the first ones were no problem, but the second holes set off a reaction to metal & I suffer every time I wear earrings now, so it's pretty seldom. I've tried coating the posts & backs with polish, but have become allergic to polish too. So I am quitting while I'm ahead and not introducing any more metal or ink. pooh. I always loved earrings.

Just one in each ear. One of them split (like an earring was forcefully torn out) one time and I had to go have a plastic surgeon sew it up again. I don't even know how it happened. I never felt any pain at all, just woke up one morning with 2 earlobes on one side.

Sounds like a nickel allergy. I had this too and the only thing that doesn't make my earlobes react is gold posts.

2 holes in each ear. The first was done when I was a baby...just a few months I think. The second was done my freshman year in college. I let the second holes close 2 years ago when DH got me gorgeous diamond hoops that were too close to the second hole...it was time :)

I've had problems with metals, platinum, silver, gold. I wear a stainless watchs with plastic or velcro bands. Metal necklaces make my neck turn black. I have less trouble with rings but only wear 2 and take them off at night. the smaller the contact the less troublesome. wires are the least problem but even expensive posts make my ears hot & throbbing in a matter of hours. I've heard it was nickel but don't know for sure. Expensive earrings & cheapies give the same reaction. It's hard seeing all those pretty earrings just sitting there! It made me decide against any body art or cosmetic enhancements for sure. Don't need more allergies or sensitivities or whatever you want to call them.

Ouch!! for the split earlobes! I've had nightmares about getting a comb caught in an earring & doing that accidentally.

valerie, i know what you're talking about. any earrings that i buy from the store make my ears get infected and hurt really bad, so i was scared to get pierced for that very reason. but i did it anyway, and found that the jewelry they use doesn't bother me. now when i take those out and put storebought jewelry in, here comes the infection. but if i buy the jewelry from a piercing shop, i can wear them without any problems. i don't know if its because they use titanium alloys or what the deal is, but i can wear my piercings painfree as long as i get my jewelry from a tattoo/piercing shop.

Lil'Jmarie, that's an idea!. I have a titanium screw in my knee & it's no problem. Good thing, that would be more than inconvenient. I didn't earrings were done with it. I'd stopped looking for alternatives. it's not the main metal, it's what it's alloyed with which is the problem.

I just have my ears pierced once. One hole is growing closed a bit...I need to get it re-pierced. My lobes are thick and it took quite a bit of work (and pain) to get them pierced in the first place. They did say that it would be almost impossible for my earring to rip through my ear, though.

I've had my ears pierced since I was 6 - just one hole in each ear, although from time to time I'm tempted to add another hole in each.

And a pierced navel - I got it pierced about eight years ago, when I was healthy for the first time in years, it was like a little "yay me" celebration combined with reinforcing to myself that I could beat illness. Okay, so beating illness didn't work out quite as I planned, so when I had surgery my surgeon was under strict instructions that my navel ring stay in!! It did. I think if I ever took it out I'd be completely lost - I can't imagine looking down at my body without it being there.

I know what you mean. A few weeks after my navel piercing, I got a very bad infection (my belly button was black - don't ask!) and had to go on penicillin. My doctor promptly removed the ring before prescrbing the drugs. One week later, I was back at the guys store and he redid if for free.

Oh fun! I just found this thread! I have two in my left ear...my DD and I went to get the second one together for our mother dtr thing... one in my right ear and one in my belly button.

The one in my belly button was reward for loosing my weight a few years ago. MY DD took me to get it done at the same place she got hers done and held my hand while they did it. I have never changed the bar cause I am afraid I will rip it or something trying to get this one out. I get teased a lot as I just became a grandma a couple of months ago. The dtr of a friend of mine told me the other day that I was "such a cool grandma!" Most people don't even know I have it cause I never show my tummy in my clothes it was just a me thing. I loved my DD's when she got hers done so I decided if I lost enough weight so my tummy looked good again I would do it. And I did! Last week I bought a bikini for the first time in years... that's fun too but I will never wear it outside my back yard... DD says it looks good on me though!

Oh, JORI!
You make a mother weep:D (I'm teasing!)

I have one in each ear. I was 22 before I got the nerve and then went to a surgeon to have it done because I was such a chicken. It probably hurt the same as getting it done elsewhere, but was in a very sanitary environment. The thought of more, literally makes me sick because of the pain factor.

I have two holes in each ear, and one hole in my left tragus (the part of cartilage that sticks out over your ear-hole). I am thinking about getting my other tragus pierced, or an eyebrow piercing, which apparently doesn't hurt that badly, but I haven't decided yet.
