Mocha Liqueur Cocktail
2 tablespoons cocoa powder, sifted; or flaked drinking chocolate
2 teaspoons light brown sugar
1 cup whole milk, divided
1 cup strong hot coffee
4 tablespoons brandy
Whipped cream, optional
1 tablespoon finely grated chocolate or chocolate syrup, optional
In a small bowl blend the cocoa powder and brown sugar with a few teaspoons of the milk to form a paste. In a small saucepan place the remaining milk and bring it almost to a boil. Evenly divide the mixture into large mugs and add 2 tablespoons brandy to each. Top with a dollop of whipped cream. Add a sprinkling of grated chocolate or lightly drizzle chocolate syrup over the whipped cream. Makes 2 drinks.
Cook's note: To make chocolate syrup, mix together 2 cups light brown sugar and 3/4 cup cocoa powder. Stir in 1 1/4 cups boiling water. Transfer the mixture to a small, heavy saucepan and simmer gently for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Allow the syrup to cool, then add 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Cover and chill in the freezer. Makes about 2 1/4 cups.
