I've got a closet full of casual clothes. Lots of jeans and running t-shirts.:D

What are girls wearing when they're out to catch a man's eye these days? I'm thin with normal hips and waist but not curvy at all on top if you get my drift. I can't even look at myself in the mirror with the close fitting tops and hip hugger jeans that the younger crowd is so fond of.

What would be an appropriate outfit for a dinner date or a movie? I want to look nice without going overboard since lots of times the guy shows up in jeans anyway!

Please fashion diva's I know you're out there help me!:p

I feel your pain! When I moved out here from New Mexico and really started dating I realized I didn't own an appropriate wardrobe. Now, Colorado does tend to be a little less formal than here but I think my ideas will hold. I try to have a few skirts, I like a lot of the ones at Ann Taylor Loft and a variety of tops to wear with them. I am not small (not huge either but still) so I don't like things that hug too closely, really just skim my body. I prefer things that hit right about my knee. And then just put on a pair of little sandals or sling backs and you are set to go. Take a look at this page Ann Taylor Loft (http://www.anntaylorloft.com/atlShowCategory.process?Merchant_Id=1&RestartFlow=t&Section_Id=18&pstartcount=0&pendcount=12&pagenumber=1&prevPageNumber=0&nextPageNumber=2) for some ideas.

Good luck,
Robyn

Well, I know you said you're a jeans and t-shirt type of girl, but what clothes would you usually wear if you're dressing up? Short/ Long Skirts? Pants? Bright or dark colors? Do you feel comfortable showing some skin (like in a tank top)? I'd love to help, but there's so many clothes out there I need a basis!

You could wear jeans to a casual date, and pair them with heels and a camisole top if it's warm or t-shirt. I have a standard "date" or casual uniform: Black suit jacket, white t-shirt, jeans and heels. Looks classy yet casual. If you are young you can wear lots of the cami tops that are popular now, either alone or under the jacket.

I love cropped khakis and pants paired with casual tops. The suggestion for AT Loft is a good one - great casual clothes. Skirts are good too.

Thanks for your tips Robyn cute stuff at the Loft.:p

Ashley - I don't mind showing some skin. I like wearing skirts just above the knee when I feel like dressing up. I guess my problem is what to wear on top. I don't want to wear anything really loose because it just hangs there looking sloppy yet nothing too tight - don't want to emphasize what I don't have.:p I'm a summer if you're familiar with the season color scheme. I look great in all the dusty shades of cool colors but when I'm feeling really sassy and good RED is my happy color.

Another thing about shorter skirts. I'm mostly leg so a lot of shirts are lower to mid thigh on me. How in the world do you climb gracefully into a truck with a short skirt?

That's is part of why I like the loft, many of their skirts this season are A line and a little longer so they aren't as restrictive. I think many of their simple tanks and other tops would work for you. And the colors in the store right now are great, including a great brick red (sort of). I got a halter top in the color and it is now one of my favorite shirts.

Another idea is some cute capris if it is truly more casual but you don't want to do the jeans route. Okay, now I want to shop! Uh, oh.

Okay, thanks! Hmm, you said red was your color, howabout a pinky shade? This skirt might be a little shorter on you than most (making the length you prefer, right above the knee).

Lots of cute outfits at the Loft, with reasonable prices, too. I like the halter tops with the skirts. Do you have good shoulders? I find that this is one of my good features, as I am rather small on top as well. I play up my shoulders and took the focus off the chest. You may want to try that angle. The cotton tieneck halter, from the previously posted link, is an example.

Good luck!

Go wild.

Someone here once pointed me to this site. I dig it:

Hmmm...not sure of the type of guy she would attract in these outfits (especially the naked looking one). Oh, wait, yes, I am sure........depends on what you're looking for, eh?! ;) :D

Go to Barnes and Noble and check out Trinny and Susanna's book What Not to Wear. It will tell you what you should and shouldn't be wearing for your body type. Its cute, too. Then you can go to the mall with some ideas in mind.

Okay, I've had some time to do some sleuthing for tops. I'm a bit small on top too. My best investment has been a good bra with a bit a padding - Vickie's Angel Bra. Adds a bit of extra umph on top IFYKWIM.

Anyway, I love wrap tops:

Also love camis:

Also hooked on JCrew menswear shirts - I wear them with tanks underneath and either button for more pulled together look, or unbuttoned for some skin.

I'm overwhelmed and want to go shopping right now - wish I had a husband already to pay for it.:o

AshleyLove the look of the skirt! Its not something I would normally pick for myself but with the shoulder tie tank top in bikini pink - too cute! And the casual outfit with those red shoes! I'm drooling over those shoes as I type.:D

Vicanddi Thanks for the tip about playing up the shoulders. I've been trying to lift weights more often and now I've got a reason to keep it up!

Escher HaHa you're just wicked.:p Guys can be hard enough to control as it is I'm not sure if I could handle pushing them right to the edge....

Mbrogier I'll check the book out. I think I have plentry of examples of what NOT to wear hanging in my closet.

Chefzhat Vickie's Angel Bra - I'll be looking into getting one post hast! I'm in love with the wrap top wonder if it comes in RED.:p

Thanks for all the ideas you ladies are great!:D

I am really enjoying this thread but it makes me giggle because as of late I have bought most of my at REI!

Hiking and camping type things...so guess I wouldn't be of much help for you unless you are dating with a 40lb back pack on your back!

I'll just keep watching and seeing what every one else comes up with...it's fun!

You said it. :o I saw an ad in a magazine one time with the caption "It's not your fault they bring out new styles every year!" I don't even remember what it was for but it cracked me up. Don't think it would cut any ice with 'Mr. Sunkat'! :D
