Does anyone have an easy and inexpensive Margarita recipe for a crowd? I am having a party this weekend and serving about 25 people. Help!

Whoa! If 25 people are going to be drinking Margaritas it's going to be one lively party! :D You could quadruple it but not everybody likes them so maybe you could just see how much interest there is and make them as you go (I'd be the first in line as I love 'em). Here's one from the Barefoot Contessa that's in my to try pile.

Real Margaritas

Recipe By :Ina Garten
Serving Size : 6 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Drinks & Punches

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 lime -- halved
kosher salt
1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (5 limes)
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (1 lemon)
1 cup Triple Sec
3 cups ice
1 cup white tequila

If you like margaritas served in glass with salt, rub the outside rims of six glasses with a cut lime and dip each glass lightly into a plate of kosher salt.

Combine the lime juice, lemon juice, Triple Sec, and ice in a blender and purée until completely blended. Add the tequila and puree for 2 seconds more. Serve over ice. If you prefer frozen margaritas (photograph), halve each of the ingredients, double the ice, and blend in two batches. Serve with a cut lime.

NOTES : My assistant Barbara Libath and I were on our twelfth version of margaritas (not a terrible job) when my friends Gilberto Carranzo and Alejandro Silva came by. They're from Mexico, they're terrific cooks, and they showed us how to make real margaritas. None of us got too much more work done that day. The keys to this recipe are to use fresh lime juice and inexpensive tequila.

Thanks for the recipe! We'll also be having wine and beer.

We get those buckets that for frozen Margaritas - everyone loves them. You can get them almost anywhere - even Linen's n Things. You just add the tequila and freeze.

BTW - it only costs about $7 too.

I vote for the buckets too! They're sooo good and so easy! We get ours at Costco, but they don't always have them. So you have to grab them up when you see them.

My recipe (which IMHO is lots better than the buckets):

1 cup frozen limeade
1 cup tequila (more or less, depending on how strong you like them)
1/2 cup triple sec (again, more or less, depending on how sweet you like them)
1 cup water
Lots of ice -- about 3/4 up the blender

Blend away. That's a blender full, so it's good for groups and you don't have to squeeze all those limes. But if you have 25 people you'll be spending lots of time at the blender.

Or burn it up!

I just buy the prefab mixes for large groups. For the 2 of us I do from scratch. Tequila, lime juice, simple syrup and a splash of Cointreau.

I use schu's recipe (except I substitute "can" where she had "cup" and don't add water). It's lots easier if you're making several blendersful. I use the 6 oz. cans of Minute Maid frozen limeade. Get your friends to bring a few extra blenders and you'll breeze through it.

Jazzmatazz49,
My original recipe was "cans" but for some reason we can't find the little cans around here. That's when the recipe went to cups.
This thread is giving me a hankering...

I've always bought the buckets from Costco but right now I'm loving the Mango Margarita recipe. If you want something just a bit different and really really good - give them a try!

If you have the freezer space, mix up any of the above frozen Margs and put in plastic juice pitcher with a cover and freeze. Party time, take out and scoop with a food scoop (like one I keep in the flour) its the perfect size to fill a glass. The do ahead makes party time simpler and you can let that blender REST and COOL between batches. Also if it dosent all go, pop back into the freezer for another day!

I like the frozen mix that Bacardi makes. You get in in the frozen juice aisle. It's probably just limeade with a Bacardi label now that I think about it. But I think it tastes much fresher than non-frozen mixes.

I like my margaritas on the rocks so I mix a can of mix, a can of tequila, some triple sec and 1/2 to a full can of water. Hey... this sounds just like Schuh and Jazzmatazz's recipe! People love these and drink an amazing amount of them.

Yes, I should've specified that I would be making margaritas on the rocks. The frozen are just too much work for a crowd.

Thanx.

It shouldn't matter - it's all proportional. By using "cans" instead of "cups", even with larger cans, it will just make more.

Okay, the water is for the nonfrozen margaritas! I was wondering why anybody was adding water when you put all that ice in there!

The rocks ritas are a lot easier to deal with. Have fun!

Actually, on a hot day, they melt really fast and don't stay frozen for long. I don't mind the tubs at all - and I prefer the ones pictures above. Also, I find that people don't mind scooping out their own after a while.

I've also tried the Jose Cuervo mix and it's not that bad either.
