I usually use low sodium soy sauce but the sodium content is still a bit high for me. Is there any good substitute for soy sauce?

Thanks

Someone will need to confirm this for me, but Tamari might be a good substitute for you. I am not quite sure how it differs from soy sauce, but I think it's better for you. You can buy this at Whole Foods Market, and others like it, Wild Oats, etc. Can someone who knows about this product please enlighten me. Also, Trader Joe's has a good low sodium soy sauce if you can't find a good substitute.

Comparing the labels of Tamari and Lite Soy sauce, the sodium for Tamari is 930mg compared to 575mg for Lite Soy Sauce.

I did some searching & found this hope its helpful
Balsamic Soy Sauce
A flavorful alternative to soy sauce
Combined Sweetened Balsamic Vinegar, soy sauce and spice to create this superbly mellow, rich and flavorful sauce to substitute for soy sauce. It contains 75% less sodium than lite soy sauces, which have an average of 550 mg of sodium per tablespoon. Use it to dress raw or cooked green vegetables and to marinate pork, chicken, beef and seafood steaks.
Ingredients: Imported Balsamc Vinegar, Brown Sugar, Soy Sauce (Water, Wheat, Soybeans, Salt, Sodium Benzoate - Less than 1/10 of 1% as a Preservative), Olive Oil, Crushed Red Pepper. Contains Sulfites.

Have you tried BRAGGs Liquid Aminos?

You can find it in many health food stores (and I've even found it in my local grocery). It's a great substitute for soy sauce, and contains the health benefits of amino acids. There is no added sodium, but you'll notice that Bragg's has some salty flavor due to the sodium in the aminos.

I have a bottle of BRAGG in my fridge & use it all the time. I dilute it with water or broth, because of the salty flavor of it-and we love it!
The label says, 'Delicious-Nutritious Gourmet Alternative to Tamari or Soy Sauce; dilute with 1/3 distilled water or to taste'. A 16 oz. bottle lasts forever & was $4.50 at my local 'Enzyme Express'. A serving size: 1/2 teaspoon= 189 servings per container.. But it never lasts me that!!

(**Protein (amino acids) is from soybeans). I just had to bragg after seeing lorilei's post-I was gonna say the same thing.. I just took alot longer to say it http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Zinnia
