If people can ask for help in naming KA mixers, I can ask for help with naming my new vehicle.

She is a silver Subaru Outback Sport. Had it been the VW, she would have been Helga. And she may still be Helga. But I don't know if she feels like a Helga or not.

Any ideas?

Bethany, I have no suggestions for a name for your new car (I've never named one of mine), but I wanted to offer congratulations on your membership in the cult ;) .

- Elaine (2004 Forester since 4/19/04)

Yikes! Subaru.

Not a brand I can easily relate to... this will take some time.... I'll repost in a bit...

You know, I think that's my issue. I have never felt much towards the Subarus. It has never been a draw for me. There is no history there.

Elaine - thanks! I'll expect my membership card and instructions on the secret handshake in the mail shortly. ;)

I think she's too pretty to be a helga.

I think she's whispering Elise...;)

Is that the color of your car? I like it.

That is the colour of my car. :)

Elise... good choice! I have Elise and Monkey (don't ask).

What's a good Swedish name? Hmm, Sven - if it's male. Not sure of any female names - Is Inga, Swedish?

(Subaru's are Swedish, right?:o )

Pssst - they are Japanese. Saabs are Swedish.

Ok, knowing the history of the company and knowing that you speak German, I'm throwing these out....

die Sternen
Sternenhaufen
Pleiades (my personal favorite)
der Steir
Tinkerbell
der Busch
das Hinterland
der Flitzer

Escher! Mwah! I love Pleiades! Or maybe Cassiopeia? Tinkerbell is a little too... girly for me. I have also pushed around Mari Mac, or Penelope, both inspired by my favourite band.

She looks like a Helga to me.

Pleiades is of course, the Western name for the star cluster depicted in Subaru's emblem. Subaru is the Japanese name for the same group of stars. (located in Taurus)

Subaru was a company formed by the merger of 6 smaller companies, and they chose a constellation w/ 6 primary stars....

The Pleiades of course is from Greek Mythology.... the 7 daughters of Atlas and Pleione.... the reason only 6 can be seen is because all but one mated w/ immortals... (Merope missed out)

Anyhow, that's a bit too much information, but thought I'd let you know I chose the name with some thought behind it.

I had forgotten that the constellation was the Pleiades until you mentioned it. ;) I happen to prefer Cassiopeia as a constellation, but it's not as fitting, I admit. Pleiades it shall be. Many thanks all!

"Merope" would be kind of fun -- as in "she's the star on earth."

I'm thinking Berta? Gerda? for the German side and since they're Japanese, how about Midori? Suki? I guess since I don't name my cars I shouldn't even post! My friend has a Geo named George, another a Focus named Fokker ( a rip-off of meet the parents).

Bethany, it looks like you've made your decision, but as I was driving to work (in my Subaru) this morning another possibility came to mind...

Stella???

I warned you that I have no talent for this  :o :(

You've already gotten great name suggestions.... just wanted to congratulate you on the new car and welcome you to the club, er, cult. :D We love our Outback and are considering another Subaru for our second car, to be purchased this fall. Hope you enjoy yours as much as we do ours!

Thanks! I have a feeling I'll be really happy with her. It's weird - I didn't fall in love, head over heels, I have to have this car love with anything that I test drove, Subaru or otherwise. It might have something to do with the fact that my dad has a new BMW 5-series sitting in the garage, and it's hard to live up to that. Nothing in my price range is that... cushy. But now that she has a name, I'm getting excited. Of course, insurance may kill me. I have a clean record, but no discounts for multiple vehicles, etc.

Is she going to have a nickname?

Let's see... pleia, ple-girl, pleia-san... ;)

I was going to cast a vote for something referring to that band that you love so much but you're already gone the astral route...

:p

Hooray! Another new member of the cult. ;) (Owner of a 2001 red Forester here).

Pleiades is a great name. It's also the name of the color I painted my living room. Weird. It's a nice blue-purple color in C2 paint.
