My husband adores the Blueberry Buttermilk Cake (May 1998). But the last few times I've made it it turns out very dense and heavy. Possible reasons: 1)I just discovered that my baking powder did expire last year 2) I'm using real eggs instead of egg substitute 3) I'm using frozen blueberries instead of fresh. Any ideas? Please help!

could always be a simple problem of over mixing the batter - that can happen so easily!

If it's not the over mixing thing, try purchasing new baking powder.
My guess is the baking powder is the culprit. I even had a brand new can that was an absolute dud. Gross banana bread!
