Patrick is back from his 3 week stint at Northwestern University accelerated education program - and has successfully completed his Advanced algegra course. I'm so proud of him - he worked so hard. He had a 12 chapter book to finish in three weeks. Sets of problems to do every day and a chapter test for each. Only half the kids finish the work, and Patrick finished his.

During the whole experience, he had an earthquake, witnessed a serious car accident (and it happened within his 2 foot comfort zone!), and his first dance with a girl. He worked really hard, made friends from 7 states and 2 foreign countries, and and figured out how to get around big cities without his mom directing him.

Thanks to all who supported me in the decision to send him to this camp. He had a truly wonderful experience, and has grown before my eyes. What a cool kid.

Just an update. I'm so glad to have him home. I really missed him.

Wow! Has it really been three weeks?!?! Sounds like he had a great time! How wonderful he was able to complete all the work...does he get regular school credit for the algebra?

Yup, he gets school credit. Now he can join the advanced math team at his school - it's a group of 20 kids that continue together for math for the rest of their high school career.

mbrogier - tee hee. I told him I'd have to rent him a place! We never did find out about the injured officer, but we think that it was campus police, not a member of the Evanston force. Oh well.

SusanL and Linda - thanks for the compliments. He's a cool guy. We BOTH learned a lot about ourselves these past weeks!

I remember when you first posted about this class, Debie, and I am so glad it was a positive experience for your son. He might forget some of the math but he probably won't forget the girl :). You must be very proud of all the work he accomplished and I am impressed by his motivation at such a young age.

You forgot to list in the list of accomplishments that you survived too. ;) I know this was hard on you and I'm glad it turned out so well. Yay for you both!
