My dinner group met last night. Here are the reviews.

• Crab and artichoke dip appetizer. This got mixed reviews. Some thought it too sweet and others said it was OK but then kept going back for more (like me).

•Tuscan bean soup--yummy and very easy.

•Sweet and Tangy roasted pork--a hit even with the people who did not like pork. The meat was tender and the outside was crusty and sweet. You can really taste the cumin.

•Blue Cheese Mashed Potatoes--Pretty good and attractive with the flecks of red and green. A lot of people added salt.

• Fruit Salad with coconut dressing. A hit. Very tasty and quick, except for all the fruit chopping, which goes fast if you have a few pairs of hands.

• Puffed-up chocolate chip cookies. Our resident pastry chef made these. She was not impressed. They tasted fine but had a cakey texture. We all agreed we would rather have regular cookies and eat fewer of them. She also bought cookies called Key Lime Straws and served them with the fruit--YUMMMMM

Okay,I give...how the heck do you use bullets here?

Emilycat, I copied this from the FAQ:

You can make bulleted lists or ordered lists (by number or letter).
Unordered, bulleted list:

[_list_]
[_*_] This is the first bulleted item.
[_*_] This is the second bulleted item.
[_/list_]

This produces:

This is the first bulleted item.
This is the second bulleted item.

Making ordered lists is just as easy. Just add either [_list=A_] or [_LIST=1_]. Typing [_List=A_] will produce a list from A to Z. Using [_List=1_] will produce numbered lists.

Here's an example:

[_list=A_]
[_*_] This is the first bulleted item.
[_*_] This is the second bulleted item.
[_/list_]

This produces:
This is the first bulleted item.
This is the second bulleted item.
**** And of course you leave ou the spaces with the underlines. Those are just there so you can actually see what you need to write!

All I did was hit option-8 on my Mac keyboard. I have no idea if this works on a PC.

Alt + 0186 = º (in Word this usually produces a bullet point - puzzling)

Alt + 0183 = ·

Alt + 0188 = ¼

Alt + 0189 = ½

Alt + 0190 = ¾

Sorta handy when typing out recipes!

Sandy, I'm computer illiterate so that one is a little confusing to me. I don't understand the numbers thing. Is there a book you may recommend to understand these computer things? Like how to underline, list, etc. I know this is off the topic but since we're on the subject...... Incidentally thanks for the Feb review ! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Jessica- is the fruit salad with coconut dressing a CL recipe? I don't remember seeing that one, but it sounds awesome! I'd love to make it!

I want to second MrsReber's request. Anything with coconut has got to be good. I looked in the Jan/Feb 2001 issue for a fruit salad and there is one, but the dressing is only honey and lime juice. Please post if possible.

Hi, I thought I would post this for you as I made it last week and thought it was great. The dressing is honey and lime, but you sprinkle the coconut on too. It seems like they forgot to mention sprinkling the coconut...

Tropical Fruit Salad

Recipe By :Cooking Light Magazine. Jan/Feb 2001. Page: 140.
Serving Size : 6 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Salads

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
2 cups (1-inch) cubed fresh pineapple
1 cup chopped peeled papaya or mango
1 cup sliced peeled kiwifruit (about 3
kiwifruit)
1 cup red seedless grapes
2/3 cup (1/4-inch-thick) slices carambola (star
fruit; about 1)
1/4 cup flaked sweetened coconut
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice

Directions.
Pairing this salad with any of the recipes featured here is an ideal way to provide a complete meal for a friend. If you're short on time, try picking up a roasted chicken and bread from your local deli to accompany the salad. We suggest transporting the fruit and dressing separately to keep the fruit fresh. Feel free to use this recipe as a general guide, substituting your favorite tropical fruit as desired. To transport fruit and dressing, place in zip-top plastic bags that don't have to be returned.

1. Combine first 6 ingredients in a medium bowl. Chill at least 30 minutes.

2. Combine honey and juice in a small bowl, and toss with fruit just before serving. Yield: 6 servings (serving size: 1 cup).

Thanks ChefChris! I was planning on stopping for fruit on the way home, now I can buy what I need. Never tried star fruit, but oddly enough I just noticed it last week at this store. Sounds like it'd be a great salad for me to take along to work. I can't wait to try it out!

Oh, MrsReber, star fruit is wonderful. Just don't try to peel it, and slice it crosswise so you get the "stars" (but you probably already knew that!). I passed over this recipe the first time too (didn't even download it from my cookpac!! For shame!). But the review sounded so good, I had to go print it out. I will be trying it sometime this week too....give us a review when you try it! Enjoy!

Hi!
I made this last month, but forgot the coconut. I did adjust the dressing somewhat-added more honey, because I thought it was a little tart. But overall, it was good, and the first time I had star fruit!

Hi, all..Our dinner group met last week also, I thought I would post our reviews for anyone interested:

Olive bread--A beautiful presentation, and great if you love olives...I would personally not put as much olive on..
Garlic Foccacia Bread--This was also a great bread, it had a lot of flavor and was easy to put together
Tropical Fruit Salad--This was a huge hit...I had never had star fruit and it was wonderful..it would be a great recipe for a brunch
Chicken pasta with spinach and Sundried Tomatoes--Everyone seemed to like this, yet we were all quick to suggest ideas for sprucing it up a bit...we would add salt, maybe garlic, use penne pasta rather than bowtie, and add more chicken
Vegetable Lasagne--I don't tend to be a lasagne fan, and I really liked this dish..it was very fresh tasting with all of the vegetables
Butter Crunch Lemon Bars--These were a big hit, not too sweet, not to tangy, and had a great crust...I would recommend refrigerating them until just before serving though, so they don't get too soft
Ooey Gooey Peanut Butter Brownies--These were from a previous issue, and many great reviews have been given for them, we all though they were good...I had made them before and remember that they do get pretty chewy after the first day

Happy Cooking http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Thanks, eloise, for your help -- I think I've got it. I'll try it out next time I make a list!
