This article by Herb Denenberg from Philadelphia was in yesterday's paper. Thought it was interesting. Guess who just tried Starbuck's latte that has 22 grams of fat? No wonder I loved it but didn't know.:( I drank a lot of them in China.

I dunno, I think this is kind of snarky. This is a guy trying to make a buck by criticizing other people for trying to make a buck. I'm not sure I really learned anything of value from it. Of course McDonalds and full fat Lattes are bad for you.

Also, Ensure was developed as a nutritional replacement for people who can't chew well. We used it quite a bit in the hospice I worked in. I wouldn't qualify that as one of the decades worst 10 foods by a long stretch. It fills a definite healthcare need.

I'm continually surprised (make that astounded) by the nutritional stupidity of people I encounter so I don't think there can ever be too many articles pointing out exactly how bad certain foods are.

What is obvious to some really comes as a shock to many people.

Regarding Ensure, I don't think he was criticizing its use for the medical purpose it was developed for -- i.e. very sick people who cannot need to boost their caloric intake. i took his criticism as aimed at their ads in recent years which have been targeted towards healthy adults as a way meal replacement. As he points out, there are far better ways of getting calories, vitamines and minerals.

I liked the article, I knew there was a reason I get non fat lattes, had no idea a regular has 22 grams of fat!

Rosie, as for Ensure, you are right, it was developed for sick people who couldnt eat solids. I think the authors gripe with it is its gone mainstream for the everyday healthy person as a replacement to a meal when you are on the go.

It may sound dumb, but one of the first things I "learned" when I was in Weight Watchers was to look at the nutrition information on packaging and not to fall for all of the name-brand and fancy lingo. The truth is in the label. I also used to eat Smart Start because I thought it was healthy and never looked to see what was in it. Now I eat Kashi, natural granola, and Fiber One. It was a learning experience for me and I know there are people falling for all of the meal replacement bars and drinks and Atkins products. Maybe this article will help.

DRINKIN’ DOUGHNUTS
Krispy Kremes come in liquid form

For you gluttons who can't get enough Krispy Kremes, the calorie-laden goodness now comes in liquid form.

The chain has introduced a new line of drinkable frozen versions of four popular doughnuts: the original, raspberry, latte and double chocolate.

The beverages come in 12-, 16- and 20-ounce cups and range in price from $2.79 to $3.99.

A warning: The 20-ounce raspberry blend is 710 calories with 123 carbs.

But then you're not terribly worried about carbs and calories if you're at the Kreme, are you?
