I am sick today and decided to throw together some chick soup with lefover broth. I pre-cooked the baby carrot slices as the broth was heating up. I then watched as little flares and sparks came from the carrots! I then changed them to a micro safe dish and the carrots burned the dish! I cooked them on high for 1 minute. Any one know about this phenomenon?

No, I haven't even tried baby carrots in the micro, but I have noticed that hot dogs will burn (little black marks) where they touch each other. I have learned to slice them only after heating them now.

I do baby carrots in the microwave - they cook a whole lot faster than I anticipate. I put them in for about 1 minute also & they're aways way over done. You'd think I'd learn. Never had any sparks though.

Could it be the sugar content of the carrots?
