O.K. Today I wanted to surprise my husband when he got home with something sweet(but not really a dessert since I just baked a lot recently). I wanted it to be something I've never made for him before. After looking through my books I decided on the Cinnamon Swirl bread with the powdered sugar icing from the 5 Star Cookbook. My 4 yr old son helped me make it, and we had lots of fun. Then the massacre begins.... I was using the microwave to time the baking(I have a double oven and the timer was already in use for the other oven). Well my son stopped the timer at some point so I had no idea how long the bread had been baking. When I checked it was nicely browned and sounded hollow so I took it out to cool. Then I frosted it. A little later my 2 boys wanted a snack. I gave them each a small piece. So far everything seemed great. My 4 yr. old loved the frosting....A LITTLE BIT TOO MUCH. I had to leave the room briefly, and apparently he decided to run his finger across the top of the loaves every time he passed them sitting on the cooling rack in the kitchen. Later when I came back in the kitchen I caught him in action. My beatiful loaves had been slowly "defrosted" by my son.
To top it off the very center was slightly underdone. BUT...iT IS A WONDERFUL BREAD, and next time I bake it 10 min. longer with a timer my son can't sabatoge and it cools in the back room(out of sight-out of mine). Anyway, my husband still loved the bread and my son is still alive so all is well that ends well!!!

Looking back, that will rank up there with the turkey that ran away with a dog, etc. Maybe next time you can get your son to help with the frosting (within his limits) then lick the bowl.

Come to think of it, I'm going to let my 4 yr old help me whack some sugar cubes to make a bread that is almost a swirl. It has cinnamon-sugar pockets made by smashing or cutting sugar cubes and coating them in cinnamon, then kneading them into the bread dough. Makes divine toast!
