View Full Version : A prayer request
On this Wednesday the fourteenth it will be the one year anniversey of my father's death and was wondering if you can guys pray for me. I have two tests that day in school. One of the tests is on algebra and the other astronomy. I have decided to submit the poem I read at the eulogy in a contest at school. I have also decided to see if I can get it published in the school magazine. If any of you would like to read it. Let me know. Thx Matt

Sorry to hear about your Dad Matt. This must be a tough time. You will definately be in my prayers. I would love to see your poem - how special! Take Care.
On that day
Any other day
would have been desirable.
But on the Day of Love
Why of all days?
Getting that call at 7a.m.
That sent shivers down to DNA
Half of my life died with you,
You the patriarch
Your life was like a dynasty.
You saw what was possible.
When I did not have your insight
At times as a child,
I felt like Icarius
Trying to fly...
However, I could not.
All I would do was
Drown.
At times I felt that you weren't human-
Until' 94
When you embraced me freely.
You had learned about agape.
On that day five years later
As you lay there
Sensing the sterillness that seeped in our lungs...
I had told you the truth...
Which I had hidden from you and the others
For so long
Letting you know the truth
That you were not just not my father
But my friend as well...
A leap of faith had shown me...
That you were going to place
Where the others of our kin had gone before you
A place called Elysian Fields...
Joining the others
I know we will be togather one day.
It is not a question of where...
It is only when.

Matt, your poem was wonderful and I'll be thinking of you tomorrow. I almost lost my father 3 months ago from complications following open heart surgery. 36 years after he helped bring me into this world I finally got the chance to tell him I loved him...never had said it before. Good luck. You're strength will sustain you!

Thank you so much for sharing your poem, Matt. My father is healthy, thankfully, but my husband's stepmother is ill. I am glad you took the time to remind us how important our parents are to our lives.

Matt, I will keep you in my prayers. I know you will do well on both your exams because you seem to be a caring, conscientious young man. It's unfortunate that you lost your dad at such an early age in your life, but you will become stronger for it. Please post your test results when you get them.

Matt,
Just got back from Florida, and I was thinking of you while I was down there this week. You will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow. I mentioned before that I lost my dad the week before Thanksgiving last year, so you are in my thoughts. Loved your poem, and good luck on your tests as well!

Today is a tough day for you, I hope you find something today that renews your happiness.
I guess that is more of a wish for today than a prayer. hope that's ok....

I just read your poem (a day late!) and I have to say that it eliminates beauty. My father died a week before Christmas three years ago and I got married last September which was really difficult. I write poetry too and displayed it on the program at the wedding. It is wonderful to be able to express what you are feeling inside in such a unique way. Good luck getting it published-that will be a great accomplishment. I'm in school too so I also relate to the horrid Algebra situation!

My grandmother just passed away this Wed. Feb. 14, and I am going throuh a hard time too. I definitely trust in the Lord with prayers, and I will add you to my prayers.
