I was wondering if anyone was ready to post a new wine. I'll check in after work, if no one has posted, I will. Thought I could buy a new wine on way home to try. We really enjoy trying wines that others love!
Still looking for the Kendall Jackson, but I won't whine about it http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

I'll post one - this is a cheap ($6-$7) bottle of red wine from Chile that doesn't taste that cheap. We try random wines all the time & this is a keeper for us. I've had several bottles & it's always been good. I've found it at both liquor stores we shop at, so hopefully you can too.

Los Vascos - the cheap one, not the reserve ($15).

I'll be having some tonight!

I just picked up an excellent Cabernet Sauvignon also from Chile:

Vina Santa Carolina Reserva - 1997 Maipo Valley.

It is supper!!! ($8-9) Nice body with a hint of blackberries, chocolate and other stuff!

Very good.

I'm still on the lookout for Los Vascos. No luck so far, but I've had other red wines from Chile that were very good. Especially for the price!

Well, I can't go look for the Los Vascos today because I live in Pa and the state stores are closed! Couldn't help getting a swipe in at the state store system here. I am quite hopeful that I will be able to find it, I had a yummy Chilean cabernet for dinner at a friend's house last night.

Pammy, I am with you again on the lcb! I haven't found it in PA, either. However, we do have a state store across town that has a large selection of wines, I hope so! While I am looking, I will try to find the Vina Santa
Carolina.
Emily - have you tried this one yet? I promise I won't whine any more http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif, at least not on this thread!!

I hate that you all haven't located Los Vascos. I hope you do - it's really good & really cheap - the best combination for wine!

Leanne, I am on my last effort to get both wines, short of driving to New Jersey or New York http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif. I have pottery class until 6, but will drive across town afterwards to get them, if I can, I will post tomorrow morning. Fortunately, my DH enjoys trying new wines as much as I do and if we get both, we will try both!!
Pammy, have you found either one yet?
Tomorrow someone has to pick another new one!!

Still haven't found it in the stores, but it is available on evineyard.com. So I'm confident I can try it some day. . .

Susan,

No, I haven't tried this one yet....I'm putting myself on wine-buying probation until I drink what I have.

HI! Sorry you guys haven't found either wine yet. They are really good.

Last night I cooked a special dinner for my friend and I being that we were both single. I made the Grilled Tuna with Papaya Salsa (post made with review) and tried a new wine with it.

Lindeman - Chardonnay from Australia 1999.
Super wine to go with chicken, salads and seafood. I give it *****.

SusanL,
I have one more state store to try (going tonight) and then I will have to put the Los Vascos on the list for this great little wine store we go to in Lambertville, N.J. (a great place to visit for Eastern Pa residents looking for a nice day trip).
Karen, we like the Lindeman's too, but our favorite reasonably priced Chardonnay is Beringer's Founder's Estate. Usually $9 a bottle in Pa, and plentiful in supply.

Thanks Pammy for the suggestion, we have been to Lambertville, great place! I guess the two Chilean wines will go on my waiting list also.
SusieO-living in PA, we can't buy wine over the internet! Wish we could!!

Isn't it unnerving not to be able to buy wine over the internet?? I'm in Georgia, and we can't either -- does anyone know the reason that some states' laws prevent alcohol from being shipped over state lines?

I agree Em. Although I heard recently that we'd be able to start having wine shipped to Michigan soon. I'm not certain why it is that way.

I tried to go to http://www.wine.com - a favorite site of mine - but they're down right now. Check out http://www.wineshopper.com for more information. It says in there that if you buy a wine through them and they cannot ship it to your home, they will ship it to an authorized dealer in your area. I think this is great for those hard-to-find picks!

Cheers! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Emily et al

Many states prohibit direct shipping of wine (ie ordered over the internet or phone, or shipped home when you're traveling) ostensibly to protect minors from access to wine. In truth, it is nothing more than economic protectionism of the large distributor/wholesaler network that has been established by many states.

In Texas, there is a pending case in federal court, where the judge has ruled the non-shipping laws violate the Commerce Clause of the Constitution. However that case has a pending motion for rehearing and will continue to be on hold while the Texas Legislature considers a bill to allow this kind of shipping. The bill was just introduced on January 31, so the process has just begun.

See www.freethegrapes.org (http://www.freethegrapes.org) and www.wineinstitute.org (http://www.wineinstitute.org) for interesting advocacy sites.

It is a pain not to be able to order wine over the internet. Last X-mas, I found this awesome wine club that I wanted to sign up for as a gift for my husband. Couldn't do it. But, at least shipping wine to Pa is not a felony like it is in a couple of states, I think Florida? and a couple others. When we were in Sonoma & Napa this summer we signed a bunch of petitions around this issue. It is really a disadvantage for us because there are so many small wineries making incredible wine. They don't have large distribution networks (and really don't want them either) and rely on internet and mail-order sales. The laws do affect the free commerce in a very real way for small winemakers and consumers.

Funny thing to add, went to the good state store that has a great selection. They carry Los Vascos, but it was completely sold out! It is funny to realize how much what we talk about on this BB impacts what people choose to drink and eat. I know that it has led me to new products/foods. Cheers!

By the way, it is Friday, someone needs to choose a new wine.

One of my favorites...Jacob Creek Cabernet/Shiraz mix. It's tough to find, though. For about $9.00, it's excellent!
