Here's a link to the transcript of Obama's speech. I'm glad I read the whole thing. This is very interesting...it's positive and hopeful. What a concept in the world of politics.

My DH watched it last night, went on and on about how great this guy is!! I heard parts from the other room, and heard plenty from DH about he can't believe I didn't come in the other room to hear and see the guy talk.
Good speech, still a politician!! I did really like his speech, but I tend to be a skeptic about politicians.

I was wondering what people outside of Illinois thought of Barack Obama. I missed the speech, but he was the ONLY thing on Chicago news last night and this morning. They kept getting reaction from the Illinois delegation which I thought was ridiculous. Of course they are going to praise him. Anyway, I voted for him in the (Senate) primary, and plan to vote for him in November. Even before the Republican candidate was humiliated in the press, Obama was killing in the polls.

If he lives what he says, he is a good man.

Since my DW had to reference my impression, I'd have to say:
A) The proof is, as they say, in the pudding. If he does what he says in Congress, then I'd vote for him in the Oval Office. Based on commentary I've heard on what he has been doing in Illinois, he sounds like he has integrity.
B) Finally, a politician that expresses exactly my concerns for the past several years - this tendency in America toward polarization (I am Democrat/Republican/Reform/etc, I am Black/White/Hispanic/etc.). What we need is a good kick in the pants, which Howard Dean has done (although I am afraid of his left-wing views). What we need is for politicians to work as Americans, taking into account opposing viewpoints, and passing legislation that makes sense, not that just satisfies some political or financial agenda.
C) If his actions follow through on half his passion, he will be a man of greater accomplishments that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
D) Who better to remind us what it is to be an American than an immigrant (or child of one in this case)? After all, that is why our ancestors came here in the first place.

I thought it was great! I really like Obama and I think he's got a lot of people (outside of IL) fired up now. I've been paying attention to him for a while and have been impressed since the beginning.

It was absolutely wonderful---what a thing to say about a speech, but I also loved Bill Clinton's speech and I was just cheering on Al Sharpton.
Obama has the whole family--well almost--pumped--from my almost complacent DH (He applauded after the speech last night) to 20-year-old DD. The 17-year-old hasn't turned off MTV yet but we are working on that.

It was a nice change of pace from the typical Democrat message of "Anybody But Bush (But Not a Third Party, Either)"
However, I feel the speech was wonderfully generic. Anyone could have given it. Replace "Kerry" with "Bush" and it would be right at home at the Rep convention.
Still, despite it's lack of specifics, it's nice to hear a speech that isn't a diatribe against the opposition.
