We are an already existing supper club (been together for 4 years) and we've had a couple members drop out recently for various reasons. We are looking to add to our group (either one or two people). We meet once a month (have never missed a month ever!), typically on a Monday evening (from like 7 p.m to 9 or 9:30 p.m.), but that's not set in stone. We don't cook together, but bring our dishes potluck. We rotate houses (and we keep membership to our group to the immediate area so no one has to drive too far) and the hostess is responsible for the main dish. We cook from the current issue of Cooking Light and don't worry about coordinated menus. We each take a course (appetizer, salad, side, dessert, etc.) and make whatever we want. It's SOOO much fun and we laugh and eat and talk and drink wine and laugh some more! We would LOVE one or two more members! Anyone interested??

Hi Grace. I have an Aunt in the area, and I'm trying to talk her into joining a group. She's not an avid cook, but I'm hoping a club could really get her interested. She's currently trying to improve the way she plans meals throughout the week.
She's in Rolling Meadows. I wasn't sure if your group was in NW Chicago proper, or the NW suburbs.
Keep your fingers crossed. She's really great.

Hi Susan! We're in NW Chicago proper (and then in my title I listed the immediate adjacent suburbs) - Rolling Meadows is a bit of a hike from here, particularly on a weeknight in rush hour traffic - not sure the group would go for it (although your Aunt would be doing the bulk of the driving to get to this neighborhood - her turn to hostess would only come around twice a year or so). But do let me know if she's interested - I'd definitely propose it to the group! Tell her to keep an eye out for the September issue - she can get a little "preview" of our group there.... ;) :D
And let this post also serve as a bump for anyone else who might still be interested! C'mon, Ladies!! You're missing out on so much FUN!!! :D

Hey Grace-
How'd your supper club get in the annual Sept. supper club issue twice? That's pretty cool.

Hey Jen! They were looking for groups who had been together for a long time for this year's article. I guess we fit the bill! :D They wanted to know what keeps our group together and what we do to keep things interesting. The picture for this one is much better than the last one, and Maureen is in it too! :D Can't wait to see it - just a few more weeks!
Oh, and any chance you'll be moving to the NW side of Chicago anytime soon?! ;) :D

So was there a posting on the BB that I missed or was there something in the magazine? Or did they just read on the BB when you've mentioned your club?
My club has been together for two years and we've done some pretty cool stuff. Guess I should stop over on the Supper Club section and post - since they did give us that section!!
No, I won't be moving to NW Chicago anytime soon. Although the way you describe your neighborhood sounds like it would be a great place to live. I love cities! However, I am going back to get my MBA and that will give me more opportunities. Maybe I WILL just skip Detroit and move!

I don't even remember now - maybe there was a posting? Or maybe they contacted me because I had responded to an old thread about "what keeps your supper club going" - my answer was different from everyone else's, which I think may be why they chose me (again :o ). They interviewed several groups, and wanted varied answers so the article didn't seem repetitive. ......OK, I just looked through all my old emails - a lady named Allison emailed me back in March - she referenced the thread that I mentioned, and asked a few more questions about our club and whether or not we'd be interested in participating in the article. Of course, I said YES!! So anyhow, it seems like my verbosity pays off once in awhile, eh?!! :D

Grace - we'll be in that issue again, too. "See ya" then!

Hey Susan! That's GREAT! Isn't it fun and exciting?!! :D The issue should be out in the next week or two at most.... can't wait!
And I'm just bumping this up as I'm still hoping for some response from anyone in the area who would like to join our group!

Grace-
Congrats! Great news about the group. I'll look forward to reading the article. Will I still know anyone but you??
Sure do miss the cooking light group!

Kelli!! How've you been? Yep, you'll recognize a few faces besides mine - Susan, Geli and Babe (although Babe just left our group :( ). Maureen (kima from the board here) was visiting when we took the picture, so she's in the picture too. There are two ladies you don't know. And as you can see, we're looking for another member - are you moving back to Chicago by chance??!! :D :D We miss having you and your great stories (can you say, handyman??!! :D :D )

Hi Grace,
I'm in Jefferson Park and would love to join the group. The only problem is I wouldn't be able to host since I have two small kids who go to bed early. We're in an apartment and their bedrooms are on the same level as the kitchen & dining room. Would the group be able to work around this?

Hi JennyAnne! I'm so glad someone responded!!!! :D :D :D
Not using your house to host doesn't bother me one iota - I don't mind hosting and could take your days. But since our group is not a dictatorship ( ;) ), I need to email the rest of the gang and make sure they're all in agreement. I'll go send an email right now, but my guess is they'll be fine. I'll let you know shortly. If everyone's on board, I'll get your email address and your phone number and get you the information on the group and the next meeting.

Hi JennyAnne!
I just sent you an email! Our group would love to have you come to our next meeting and have you meet us all and see how you like it. We'll be setting the date for September's meeting tomorrow. Hopefully you can make it (hopefully you're still interested in joining! :D ).

Hi amlll!
Thanks for responding! We actually had two people (one who posted here and one who emailed me) already respond and both will be coming to our next meeting. That would bring our group to 7, and that's the cap we've put on how many any one of our houses can handle, so we won't be adding any more at this point.
But things can change, and it's quite possible either of the two will change their minds (it's happened before to us where a new person came once, and never came back - and that's happened two or three times already, actually!), or someone will move away, or whatever, so I will absolutely come back here and get your email address and let you know if another spot opens back up! There have been a couple of times that we've needed a new member for our group, and I've posted a post that I kept bumping to the top - I even posted over on the Great Food and Other Stuff boards, but never got a response. So I'm glad to see all of this interest!
In the meantime, you might want to start a new posting of your own, and you could possibly get your own group started. There's a lot of interest right now because of the article.

Hi Grace,
I hope that includes me!
Thanks,

Yes, Holly, I was including you! Sorry I haven't sent you an email yet - I got responses from most of the girls on having you join too, but was waiting for the last person to respond. I can't imagine anyone objecting, but again, I don't want to make waves with the group by just making decisions without asking everyone. I'll send you an email with a whole lot more details soon.
The next meeting is 9/22, so make sure you keep that date open! :D
