I'd like to use my beautiful trifle bowl for something other than desert. Any suggestions? Thanks

For another type of food prep/serving or just something decorative to leave out? I would put it out with lemons and limes or pretty gourds and candles. A friend just started doing Southern Living at Home parties and the catalog had some really interesting decorating ideas using bowls or glassware.

A layered salad would look nice (ie. a seven layer
salad). Other salads, such as a broccoli and cauliflower
salad, would look nice as well.

During the Christmas holidays, I layer red and green
tissue paper in the bottom and have it overlap the top.
I fill it with kettle corn (dyed red and green) or any
other holiday treats I may be serving. This, of course,
would work at any holiday with corresponding colors
and snacks. :p

Looking forward to reading other responses! Thanks
for the post!:D

I was thinking of food, but I love the decorative ideas too. Thanks

Here is a recipe that I have been meaning to try from Epicurious. It looks like it makes a lot, so I need to wait until I have somewhere to take it or have a group over. I am sure it looks very nice in a trifle bowl as suggested. I have also seen many layered salads done in trifles that are good.

Sort of like a tupperware party but for Southern living decorative objects, cookbooks, etc.

Funny! I too was wondering what to do with my trifle bowl. I have settled on some crystallized fruits (plums and grapes to tie in to the plum couches in my living room) and am going to leave it out on my dining room table as a centerpiece.

At Christmastime (when I'm not making a trifle) I put pretty glass balls in mine. I used to have some tiny battery-operated lights that I'd put in with them, but they died and haven't been able to replace them.
I've filled it part-way with water and floated candled in mine on occasion.
A friend of mine made a GORGEOUS dessert with jello. It was from an old 60s jello cookbook; she layered different color jellos on an angle and then topped it off with whipped cream (probably Cool Whip).
So pretty, and easy! Now that I think about it, there are lots of neat things you could do with jello in a trifle dish! Thanks for starting the thread joyce - I may just have to play with this!

I have been using mine for the anti pasta bowl vegetable salad. It looks so pretty with all the veggies nestled in the bowl.

Fruit salads look great in a trifle or any glass bowl. You could serve punch for a smaller gathering. Serve a chilled soup from it. Fill it with crushed ice to serve a smaller bowl of something that has to be chilled in the center of it (like caviar, boiled shrimp). Use it with small floating candles in a centerpiece.

I also bought the cakesicle pan from King Arthur, and I have been thinking that those would be fun made for a party and stuck into a bowl or container filled with something that could hold the sticks. Depending on the size of the trifle bowl, it could work for something like that at a birthday party.
