I was reading an old "popular thread" about making your own homemade vanilla extract. How'd yours turn out?

Mine had incredible aroma and wonderful taste but it was light in color. I used 2 whole beans to a 750ml bottle of vodka. I let it sit for 2 months shaking occasionally. I think next time I will try more vanilla, it was great no doubt but I would like it to be closer to the color expect for gift giving. I am now excited to try other things too like lemon, almond & such http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I've been using homemade vanilla in a vodka base for YEARS! Back around early December, I started a bottle of vanilla based on rum. I started using the rum-based vanilla probably a month ago. It really smells wonderful. I'm still not certain whether or not I think the vodka based vanilla smells just a little more heavenly though!! I'm happy with both bottles!!!!

i also made mine back in early Nov. I made a bottle w/light rum and a bottle w/vodka, the vodka one is still to light for my liking,(I think i would prefer it darker, like the store bought stuff) but i've been using it all along and it's wonderful. as for the rum vanilla, it was much darker and smells heavenly, but as yet i haven't used it!

definitly try making some of your own!

Ann
