View Full Version : Any special plans for Friday night (Olympic Opening Ceremonies)??

I'm so excited about the opening ceremonies of the Olympics this Friday. I decided to have a special dinner with DH to make the evening even more fun. My first thought was to do Greek mezedes (basically appetizers) because the Olympics are in Athens, but we decided on a full fondue dinner instead (meats/seafood/veggies cooked in hot oil, tons of different dipping sauces, and chocolate fondue for dessert). Fondue takes a long time and will last longer since opening ceremonies are long.

Anyone else planning anything special?

Grace -that's a good idea! We definitely will be watching them, but I hadn't thought about planning a dinner around it. Hmmm...will have to think about this.

Oh Grace, that sounds like such a fun idea! Do you use a hot pot or fondue pot? Any recipes to share? I'm a big sucker for fondue and have "Fondue Party" on my list for Fall entertaining.

That said, I decided to have a garage sale this Saturday, so while I'll have the Olympic opening ceremony on in the background, I think it might be a pizza night!

Well, my special plan is to attend my monthly quilt guild meeting. Not really olympic related, but special none-the-less.

Grace - do you get the Penzey's catalogue? They have a bunch of Olympic Party ideas & recipes in there you might be able to use for your special dinner! Enjoy.

Connie- thank you for reminding me that in my recent Penzeys delivery, I received a bottle of their Greek Seasoning. (I was a sucker for their promotion) :) . I'll have to check my catalog again for suggestions on using it and incorporate that into Friday's dinner!

I think I do - but I usually throw it away! :o  There is a Penzey's store close by that I go to often and so I don't ever bother looking at the catalog..... Guess I'll have to stop in and ask for another one! They usually have them at the store to pick up. Thanks for the heads up, and I'm out of a few things anyway (cumin and saffron!) so I'll make sure and go sooner rather than later! :D
