Hi all :-)
I'm a new poster and would first like to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed reading through the posts for some time. I lurked for a while before getting up the nerve to sign on as a member and post my first question. I've subscribed to CL magazine for a few years now and the site is a wonderful addition to the magazine. Visiting this forum has provided me with hours of entertainment, great tips, suggestions for recipes to try in the CL magazine, and inspiration to continue my quest for a healthier lifestyle. So, Thank You!
Now, about my question; (perhaps I should have e-mailed CL, but I'm not sure of there address-forgive me if this has been handled in the archives, or if I am crossing any boundaries by asking a non-food-related question) do any of you get a virus alert when the CL homepage loads? I keep getting the message every time I load the page. It always references the "button_small[1].gif" as being infected with the MtE virus. I've contacted Norton's re: the MtE virus and they assured me that a ".gif" file can't contain that type of virus. My computer appears unaffected. It's just an annoyance each time I come for a visit -(also scares the begeezus out of me when the computer beeps and the blue screen flashes! LOL) Thanks for the listen. :-)

I've never had a problem with it loading. You might want to try posting this on the BB Tech support or e-mailing tech support. Maelynn might have a better answer for you. She might also answer here, as she definitely reads these boards.

I have never gotten a virus message. I used to get a window pop up (I think it was for subscribing or something - I always closed it fast) but that was it.

Welcome crazycook! No, I have never had this problem. I agree with Shirley. On the page that the Great Food Board is located there is also a Technical Support site. You can post this problem on there. I've never had to post there so I'm not sure how quickly you will get an answer. If you are only seeing that virus alert message on the CL site, they may be able to help you out with it. Good Luck!

Welcome crazycook!
Do you only get the problem on the home site. For example, if you click on the link below to visit the CL recipe finder, do you still get the error message? http://www038.recipefinder.cookinglight.com/pl.qanda?extArg=pZf3d25ZhjpKRKdgYccWJxVp9c2Z&accessArg=pZf3d25RCUISld3hioaFYVBJ9oVVw1CYCGUbDjs-EfRFyJOdaTWBhKxQRABtIT6YiiJylXaiS5CnN713p GpWbQyBKHNBBDJIsEYFyICRcYHDpafcaihg42Z
If not, then you might want to create shortcuts directly to the recipe finder or the message boards, and anything else you might visit on the CL site. This way you can avoid going to the home page at all until you get the problem fixed.
Just want to share my computer problem that I have learned to live with...
In my Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, etc.) I can't use CTRL-C to copy or CTRL-V to paste. When I do, my whole computer "freezes". I can't even do a ALT-CTRL-END to reboot. I have to turn the computer completely off, then restart. I've even reloaded the software...same problem.
As a workaround, I have to copy and paste from the edit menu - then it works fine. What a pain!

Thanks for the replies and the welcomes. :-) I've taken your suggestions and posted my question on the Tech BB and have created a shortcut in my Favorites folder to link to this food forum :-). The virus alert only pops up on the loading of the homepage--thank goodness.
Kentgirl: I've never experienced the problem you mentioned with WORD and EXCEL and the shortcuts for copy/cut/paste, however, I do have a couple of suggestions for you to try. Hopefully it will solve your problem.
For WORD: (this should be the same regardless of the version you are using)
Click on Tools|Customize|Keyboard Tab. Then under "Categories"--click on EDIT in the left window pane and under "Commands" in the right window pane choose EDITCOPY. (See if CTRL+C is listed under "Current Keys". If not, then type it in under "Press New Shortcut key" and click the "Assign" button. Do the same for EDITCUT and EDITPASTE. Hope this helps.
In Excel: choose Tools|Record Macro|Record New Macro. In the Record New Macro dialog box, click on the Options button. Give the Macro a name, example: EDITCOPY, type a description if you choose to. Click on the "Assign To" and type in Edit, click on the "Shortcut Keys" and type in "c" in the letter box. If you want the macro to work in all workbooks then choose "Store In"--Personal Macro Workbook (this is open and running in the background all the time),also, select Relative Reference so that the Macro will work on any cell selection, in any workbook, then click OK. To test this out, open a new workbook and instead of choosing the option for "personal macro workbook" as listed in the above directions, choose "this workbook". Type in any information in a few cells, then highlight and use your shortcut command for copy, then click any empty cell, and the command for paste. If it works out, then repeat the process, but choose the "personal macro workbook" so that it will apply to any existing workbooks and new ones that your open up from now on. Hope this works for you. I hope this made sense.
