I won a $ 50. gift certificate for cooking.com at the Cooking
Light Supper Club event in Boston. I'm considering the Delonghi indoor grill (since the winter will be here sooner than you think!). I've read some reviews and some people find it doesn't heat up sufficiently to actually cook like a grill, the comments are that
it really steams the food. I do remember reading a review
sometime this year in either Gourmet or Bon Appetit that this
is the best indoor grill. Does anyone have any experience with it?
TIA

Cindy - My understanding is that none of the electric grills heat up to the same level as an oven broiler -- i.e. Foreman etc.
I have used the Foreman and currently own a Hamilton Beach grill. I find that both are satisfactory for my indoor grilling needs which are basically to more or less grill something for a quick light meal - i.e. salmon or boneless chicken breast.
I would be most concerned with regard to whether the plates come off for ease of cleaning -- there was just an extensive thread on this and I am one of those who tossed the Foreman grill because I couldn't stand the clean-up without being able to immerse the plates.

My Delonghi is several years old. When we first got it we used it a lot. I tend to use a grill pan more now--mainly because the electric grill is stored in the basement--lack of cabinet space in the kitchen and the grill pan is easier to clean.
I like the way the grill cooks---especially beef and pork tenderloin. The grill part comes off completely and can be immersed for cleaning--although it is really too large to immerse. DH does the clean up so it's not bad for me.

I have one but no longer use it because it does not clean easily.

Thanks to those who posted. I'm shamelessly bumping this
up to see if anyone else has used it (in case anyone missed
the post over the weekend).

Have you checked reviews at epinions.com? I checked it out very briefly and it appears that the major con is the clean-up -- Having tossed my GF because of cleanup, I wouldn't get an appliance in which clean up issues were cited by all the reviewers as well as the two people on the BB who own one -- but that's me:)
I tend to grill on my current completely cleanable indoor grill when I want to cook something easy and mindless as well as tasty of course. If I had to spend time and effort cleaning, it would obviate it's benefits and I would just do a pan saute -- but that's me of course -- I steer clear of anything high maintenance:)
