Sorry if this question has been asked before, but i couldn't find anything in the search files.

So do any of you know or have you successfully frozen sweetened condensed milk? I bought a can to make the ooey gooey brownies, the last time I made these I threw the leftover sweetened condensed milk away, it seems like such a waste, especially since it cost me $2.89 for the can.

Any thoughts?

Thanks Ann

You can try contacting the manufacturer and ask them. Or, next time you have some to spare, try freezing it and see what happens. If it would go to waste anyway, no harm in trying.

I have frozen sweetened condensed milk before and on thawing the texture appeared to be slightly thinner than it had prior to freezing. The flavor was still the same and I certainly would freeze it again so not as to waste it.

Thanks for your responses, I am going to freeze it and see what happens, as funnybone said I don't have much to lose in trying it.

BTW -- I regularly freeze buttermilk and I've found there's no change in texture (although I do use it within a month or so.) We use a lot of buttermilk in baking and fresh results in a far superior quality than powdered.

I just freeze it in 1 cup portions in canning jars and thaw it in the microwave when needed. Couldn't be easier.
