Having a great time in VT, eating way too much high cholesterol food. I miss the dog, sure, but he is well cared for at his Doggy Gym with lots of playmates.

But I bought the Jack Bishop vegetarian cookbook that several have recommended here, and I am totally in love with it. What recipes, what imagination! There isn't a thing in it I wouldn't make excepting, of course, anything with big tomato chunks!

I always get homesick, on any trip, no matter where I am, and Mr. Bishop has made it much, much worse this time.

See you all maybe Friday, depending on how well we do getting back into the city on B-Day tomorrow!

Bob, glad you're having fun!

I thumbed through that new Jack Bishop book at Borders the other day... was so tempted! Now I want you to be in your kitchen too, so you can post reviews and force me to go buy the book for myself...

Enjoy the rest of your trip. :)

Oh Bob!!! I feel your pain! I always whine about wanting to travel and then like clockwork I get homesick after about three days!

I want that book too but it seems pricey....I'll wait to hear what you think of it. Anyway, we miss you too and want you back in the litchen and on the board!!!!
Love ya buddy!:)

Bob, hurry home so you can post some reviews from the new book. I don't do a lot of vegetarian meals, but who knows, you might convert me. BTW-I wish I was in VT:(

If it's any consolation, Terry, just an hour ago, while sitting on the deck of the Trapp Family Inn pastry restaurant with that spectacular 180 degree view, I raised my fork with the first bite of Black Forest Cake mit schlag (lots and lots of schlag) and toasted you.

(Life doesn't get much better than that!)

Bob, who felt more like a Gay European for a bit there.

Bob, how can you want to return to NY after spending time in VT? The days have no humidity and the nights are great sleeping. I NEVER want to leave there, except maybe in the winter when the wood burning stove dies in the middle of the night.

Anna, you should know by now that all you have to do is whisper the word "chipotle" sweetly in her ear and she's yours.

Sami, we're talking houses. I worry, though, that I can't race out the door at ten PM and find, say, quinoa.

In fact, you can't even get a pizza at that hour!

But the stars are sure pretty.

Maureen, you're know you're gonna buy the Bishop sooner or later anyway. I'm already leaning towards the Almond-Orange-Olive Pesto for a "welcome home" dinner!

Bob,

I've had my eye on that book a few times. I can't wait to see more recipes reviewed and posted. I'm wildly jealous, both about Vermont and the new cookbook. I LOVE Vermont. Sigh.

I love New England.

Basically.

Have a safe trip back.

Is it the NEW "Year in a Vegetarian Kitchen" book? (his "Complete Italian Vegetarian" is also exsquisite)

Mmm... there IS some great stuff in there. I've yet to sit down with my copy and actually get organized enough to cook from it. But the sheer THOUGHT of it prompts drool :)

Glad you had such a great time...

Yes, it is and the weekend menu is all planned. I had so much unpacking to do (who did all that shopping?) when I got back that I wasn't feeling too ambitious, so I just made his Buttermilk Cole Slaw, actually doing the salting and draining thing which Alton Brown also recommends, and which I'm not sure I like at all. I had it with an Amy's "grilled" soy burger from the freezer, topped with a VT bbq sauce (Laney's) and some Moosewood BBQ beans I had on hand. It was wonderful and it reinforced my thinking, after a week of beef, lamb and other high fat foods, that simple vegetarian dishes can be every bit as wonderful. Well, maybe not better than that herb-crusted rack of lamb..... ;)

I'm doing a brief stop in the office, mostly to drop off some art work we bought, check mail, then scram to the market for the few things I need.

Soon as I get home, I plan to make his pear-arugula soup, intend to do one of the many tofu dishes he has towards the end of the volume, but they all sound so good, I'm having a hard time choosing!
