I've just been thinking and wondering when this BB was born and who if any of you were here from the beginning? Some of you seem to know each other pretty well even if it is only through the web. Have you ever met face to face? You all seem like such nice people and very helpful. Thanks for letting me be a part of the community.

Gosh, I don't even remember what the "old board" looked like anymore! This particular BB format started in June of last year. Several of us were on that old board, but I don't know when that board was started - anyone know? I don't even remember when I joined in the old board. Big help I am, huh???? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I don't really remember the "old board" either, Alysha! I started there only about a month before they set up this "new" board. It is a great place, and if I could, I'd probably sit here all day hitting that dumb refresh button.... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif !
The only people I've met in person from this board are those that are in my supper club (4 people). Otherwise, we're all just "internet friends"! It's amazing to me how well we all know each other, too, based solely on some posts! Some of you all know me better than people I know in person! But how WONDERFUL that I (we) have found a place where we can share our passion for cooking and healthy eating/lifestyle. It seems we have more in common than that, as well. It has struck me often that most everyone here loves their husbands (not so among the general population - so much "man bashing" going on - but never here!), plus a million more things. And we're all so NICE!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif!!!! hee hee. I don't know what I'll do if CL ever stops publishing the mag or this website ever goes away, or my computer crashes, or my internet connection doesn't work....oh my...

Well, you've made me even more curious, and this will show how computer illiterate I am, but where is that refresh button? I've wondered how you respond so quickly to some things.
I'm pretty new to this board as well. In fact, this is the first time that I've ever been into something like this. Everyone does seem so nice. I don't always respond to posts, if I don't feel I have anything of value to add, but I always enjoy reading everyone elses posts. I especially love the poll kinds of questions. It's fun to see what other people think about issues as well as getting other ideas. And I agree with Grace, everyone really seems to love their husbands on this board. It is definitely refreshing to know that. I'm one of the ones that adores my husband. I'm blessed to have him in my life and am so glad that I'm not out there dating!! Anyway, my two cents, for what it's worth. I do love this bulletin board and do hope that it will be around for a while!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
Hoosier65, it should be on your browser menu bar. You know where it says, back, forward, stop...refresh is right next to the stop button. Is that what you were inquiring about? Unless there's another refresh button I don't know about I think that's what Grace is talking about.

I must've joined right after the new board was created. I don't remember there being an old board. I'm struck by the many similarities in our personalities, too. We all love to read and seem to pursue the finer, yet simple, things in life (food, wine, a good book, being able to put smilies in our posts). I, too, absolutely adore my husband. And, I have to say I am always surprised at how nice everyone is- especially whenever I have a pregnancy question. Lindrusso sent me some magazines (thanks again!!) and I've gotten email at home from a couple of others who have offered me encouragement, advice, and some helpful tips (Beth Y, for one). Never met any of them face to face, though. But then, that doesn't seem to matter. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I just wanted to remind you lucky ducks going to Birmingham to remember to share all your stories, impressions etc. with the rest of us. It will be somuch fun for you oldtimers to put a face to a name. I sure wish I was going but from Victoria to Alabama is a long way - not to mention our sagging dollar. You guys are the greatest by the way!!!

Just would like to put in my two cents...I don't think I was part of the old board for I'm just really beginning to enjoy CL...the magazine and this great BB. I recommend it to all of my friends. I'm trying to get them to enjoy cooking as much as I do. Funny thing is, I am really new to cooking. Never wanted to help mom in the kitchen growing up, and I lived off of Ramen noodles in college. It wasn't until I met my wonderful husband that I learned how much fun all of it can be. I don't know anyone on the BB personally but sometimes it feels like I do when I read different posts and laugh at some of the comments!!!

Thanks everyone for responding. I'm pretty new to the internet and you make us newcomers feel right at home. What's going on in Birmingham? Is there some CL thing going on? I have introduced my best friend to cooking light and she is finally starting to cook lite some of the time. We you see that light can taste great there is no reason to cook any other way.
By the way, what's going on in Birmingham?
Some CL thing?
And thanks, shoyski, my web page does not have a refresh button, but the F5 works. That saves a lot of time.

I started just as the new board went up -- in fact, I can even remember a few of the early bugs. Now the board is almost my second home -- although I hate to admit that my home once had bugs. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif Even my mother occasionally asks, "How are things with your cooking ladies?" (No offense, Ed, Matt, and the rest of you gents.) So if my mother is interested in everyone's doings, I guess it's even more than a home; it's a family!
Cheers,
Phoebe
I've been around just about a year now and recall posting a similar question shortly thereafter. Insofar as this current board is concerned, I can tell you its official birthday was June 13, 2000, because I vividly remember the problems we were having that first day: the folks at CL were seeing the new, improved board when they logged in, most of us out here in Computer Land were seeing the old board and wondering when they were making The Big Change. Heap big fun that day!
I was told by someone last year that the old board was probably in existence about a year and a half before that... sound like a reasonable guesstimate, Those Who Came Before Me? (BethY, CathyA, Shoyski, ElinorC, Susan, LauraB, Natasha, Mamasue, Deanna, Zinnia and Vanessa,to name a few?)

I remember being here for the old board, and the new, and hearing the frustrations as we all tried to get used to it. I was pretty comfortable with the old one, but admittedly, this one is much better.
Speaking of Deanna, what ever happened to her?
Oh - and hi Gail. LTNS. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Yes I remember the old board. It caught my attention because it was such an active board. I think if the new board started in the summer 2000 I started using the old board maybe in 1999. I recall mamasue, Zinnia and others from the old board. Maybe Maelynn can tell us when cooking light started boards? By far this is the most active board I have seen. The members are the best!

I started in August of this year, but if the old board was like most others, love this one more!
This is so great, I feel like we are all friends! I also dont respond as much as I could because I dont always feel I have something to say, but I read posts religiously every night!

I was on the old board, were there two old BBs or did I make that up? I mainly read others threads, too nervous about posting. It took me a while to post on this thread, busy time in my life.
Many of us were devasted that we couldn't pull up the old threads once this one was established. It really was a lot slower and difficult to get around. Did Deanna move or give her son back his computer? What about "old" Cathy-not your age!!
I don't go on any other BB's but must say everyone is so friendly and helpful!! It is a definite addiction but one that yield delicious results!!
Anyway, I am grateful to my internet friends who share their advice, recipes, and good humor!!

Good Trivia question! I think I joined shortly before the new board and don't think that I was too much ahead of Vanessa, Gail and Deanna to name a few. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif This is a great, active board that is filled with compassion, friendship, the love of cooking and much more. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Each day we are embraced with a new face who joins our family here...and how wonderful it is! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I, too, joined a month or two before the "new" board started. This is such a great group of people. I feel like I know so many people - just from reading their posts. I tell all my friends about the board - I'm too addicted! I have to cut myself off, or I'd be on 24/7! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I joined the old board in January of 2000, but it has been going before that. I don't know how long. The new board is much better IMHO. I have learned many things from and laughed many times with my CL buddies. They are always quick to respond when you post a request. I am encouraged that several seem to be church going families and that family is a priority.
Deanna popped in a couple of months ago to ask a question, but I gathered she's given the computer to her son and has just decided to move on to other things...

I vaguely remember the old board too--I think I started around the same time Grace did...around June 2000? Maybe? Hmmm--I'm not much help.
I, along with all of you, really enjoy 'talking' to everyone too. There are not many people I know in person that share my love for healthy cooking. Most of my friends don't cook at all--let alone cook healthy (and they definitely don't obsess over planning every meal like I do!) Many of us do seem to have similar personalities and have wonderful relationships with our mates. I agree that aspect of this board is refreshing too.
Thanks to all and I look forward to meeting many of you in Birmingham.

Hoosier65, if you can't find a refresh button try your F5....that's what I use.
And I'm from the old board , still enjoying the new.

i remember tuning in to CL BB quite some time ago & seeing lots of postings panning the new board.I only cook CL & rarely make anything twice as i am so inquisitive--so my kids keep giving me cook books which i never use as nothing is as good as CL & you can always trust it.

Karole, it will update any entries that have been posted while you've been reading the other threads posted before you logged on.
Just a little trick to keep you on longer...as if we needed help with that! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
I read the old boards, though I never posted on them. I spend w-a-y too much time on this board, but I can't stay away! I love reading about everyone's lives, in addition to all the great recipes. This board has been a good source of support to me in various situations, and to others too, I'm sure. It's definitely the best organized board that I've ever visited, too.
AHA! I knew this thread was here somewhere... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/Archives/Archive-000001/HTML/20010228-1-000249.html

Yep, I was around on the old board (was "Susan" then too) and vaguely remember it having the same color scheme. I printed out and/or saved reems of pages from the old board. So many good recipes were shared on that board that it was ashame they couldn't have been archived as well. I have visited other bboards (cooking and others) but still think that this *current* CL bboard is the fastest and has the best interface! Hip-hip-hooray for CL!!!

I was on the 'old board'and although I can't remember the exact date I started, it seems like it was in late '98. That's when I really started enjoying CL's recipes since sharing opinions with everyone made everything more interesting. I love all "you guys"! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Reading everyone's comments made me curious as to when I started coming to this board. I knew it had been quite a while, but I looked up my profile and found that I registered 6-23-2000. According to other people's posts, that must have been right after the new boards started. But I think I had visited before that and had read stuff from the old boards without posting.
I too have found this to be a wonderfully welcoming community. I usually think of the Internet as a fairly sterile place without human interaction, but this bulletin board is the complete opposite! Though I don't get on the board as often as many of you, I love it when I do make time to read and post. Personally, I especially love reading the posts about the "Pregnant Susans", but I also really enjoy the polls, recipe reviews, and just about any topic there is. (Though I have gotten tired of reading about when everyone's magazine gets delivered!)
I have met several people from this board through our CL Supper Club. There are nine of us in the group now, and that group shares the same wonderful traits that I see coming across in this board. We share similar interests, and we all are incredibly nice people. In fact, we had our Supper Club last night, and only four of us could make it, but we stayed and talked until after 10pm! (And that's really late for us, because we all had to work the next morning!)
I too wish I were going to Birmingham, because I'd love to meet so many others of you. But DH and I are rationing our vacation time & money this year to go to Costa Rica in May! Hopefully CL will do another event in the future, so more of us can come another year.
