Tiger

My DS just got home from the first day of 2nd grade. (yes, we start late) Each child was assigned to be student of the week. With the last name of Tiger we're used to being last but the teacher did it in reverse and he's first.
By next week I have to come up with an activity and snack for the class. I thought it would be neat for it to relate to each other but it's not necessary. Please help!
I could also read a book. So a book related to a snack would be neat also.
Help!

Patty, I don't have children so please take that into consideration when reading this suggestion...
There is a children's book called The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales that has won numerous awards, and is just the kind of humor that 2nd graders might love. Perhaps reading that book could be the activity and the snack could be cheese and crackers (and maybe grapes)?
Good luck planning!

How about If You Give a Mouse a Cookie or If You Give a Moose a Muffin ? Those are two of my favorite children's books, and they have obvious snack potential.

Another great book is Cloudy with a Chance for Meatballs . It should lend itself to either activities and/or snacks Here are some google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=activities+for+cloudy+with+a+chance+for+meatball s) results for ideas with the book

Check out FamilyFun.com - the website to the magazine. They always have great stuff.
If you scroll down on this page it has lots of projects involving apples....and sliced apples with caramel to dip is always a kid favorite!

This is exactly the book I thought of. It's perfect for that age group.

You should do a story about tigers :D You could make tiger shaped cookies or serve animal crackers.

Have you been to Jan Brett's homepage? www.janbrett.com
She has activities etc for her books. The drawings are fabulous. One book is the Gingerbread Baby. If you look under activities there is a recipe for gingerbread babies, icing etc. which you could get the students to decorate themselves. There is also a mobile made from paper plates and candies. Hope that gives you some ideas.
You could also tie a book about Johnny Appleseed in with apple treats.
If You Take a Mouse to a Movie would go with popcorn. Stega Nona would go with some kind of noodles.
Walter the Baker by Eric Carle would go with twisted pretzels (the soft ones would be best, but any kind would be good with 2nd graders).
My son also has a book called A Baker's Dozen, but I can't remember what it was they were buying a dozen of.
Pete's a Pizza and a Curious George book (I think it's Takes a Job) would suggest pizza.
The Little Red Hen and bread....lots and lots of possibilities.
