DH and I have a 12 cup Krups that we have had for about 6 years. Problem is it has a glass carafe that seems to break quite easily. So we are looking into getting another coffee maker. We need one that makes at least 6-8 cups as we really only make coffee when we have comapny over, so single serve systems won't do us any good.

SO what system do you have and any likes or dislikes?

Not long ago we bought a new Krupps coffee maker. I don't recall the model but it has the stainless steel carafe. This is wonderful. It keeps coffee hot for a few hours. Very convenient. It's a 12 cup capacity. I think we caught it on sale at Linens and Things for $119? Highly recommended.

We have the Starbucks Barista Aroma with the stainless steel carafe. It has a 10 cup capacity. We have used it just about every single day for the last two years or so and its been great. You will love the stainless carafe -- I would never go back to the glass again.

I have the Capresso Elegance therm http://www.capresso.com/prod_makers_therm.html

Capresso are expensive, but the only bad thing I can think of to say about this coffeemaker is that the carafe only holds 8 cups instead of 10.

If I were buying, I'd definitely get one that drips right into a thermal carafe. we have our coffee in bed in the morning & it would be so nice not to transfer the coffee.

Not surprised you've that Krups so long. I had the same coffee maker you do and I think I had it for 10 years and it was still going strong when I abandoned it in Saudi Arabia last month! That seemed to be the only way to get rid of it! I'm only afraid it's going to walk home. :D If only everything lasted as long, eh? I thought it was just me being a klutz that I went through so many carafes (I'd have to haul extras back in a suitcase to Saudi too - P.I.T.A.). I should show my husband this thread. It wasn't my fault! If the only complaint you've had about Krups is the fragility of the carafes you might want to look into one of their thermal models as others have suggested. They do make good coffee and the machines seem to be well made.

Have you thought about finding a replacement carafe that's not glass? I'm not familiar with Krups coffee makers but I know there are lots of replacement carafes that are of other materials.
