Okay...I think I am missing something here. I bought MasterCook and have used it only once, but it seems as though everyone loves it! What do you use it for? Am I completely missing something? I thought it was only for recipes.
Thanks!

I really like that I can import recipes into it from other sources such as this BB and other places from the net. Also the export feature is nice. I also will add some recipes I have collected over the years and be able to organize them.

It's also good to use to search for a recipe that includes a specific ingredient(s). For instance, if you have some eggplant and leeks in the refrigerator that just HAVE to be used up and you want to put them both in the same recipe if you can, then you can search for all recipes that include eggplant AND leeks.

I have an older version, 4.something that I picked up at Costco for about $7.00 last year. I have only added a couple of recipes to it, but I obviously need to import and do the things that all the others talk about. I hate sitting typing recipes in. Most recipes I get from the net, and it is easier to print out. But then, I end up with a mountain of recipes.
One question, can the older versions do what the newer versions do, or should I upgrade? Do you keep MC always open on your computer for easier access?

i have the master cook from a few years back-it says 3.0. i got a new computer. then it wouldn't really work--do you just throw away--or do you try to find out if you can get it to work?

Absolutely. Versions 5.0 & 6.0 are a huge improvement over 4.0 and prior versions. The import assistant introduced in 5.0 is worth every penny spent on the new version. You will be amazed at how fast and easy it is to transfer (import) recipes from e-mails and the web into your cookbook. I keep MC loaded all the time. Consequently I have close to 800 recipes that I have imported in my "Recipes to Try" cookbook. Version 5 is a whole new re-write, so you will have to play with it a while to learn the new features. About the only improvement that I have found in Version 6 over V.5 is the increased speed of the search function, but I use MC mostly for collecting new recipes so there may be other enhancements as well. There are many previous threads on MC on this board that will tell you more.
