Hello everyone! Been a lurker for sometime now and finally have a good reason to post a question.

I have been without a stove for a little over a year. Thanks to you and your posts I have made awesome crock pot receipes, smoked meats and fish and grilled excellent dinners...

-- turkey marsala
-- asian chicken salad
-- thai style pork stew
-- smoked salmon
-- easy chicken santa fe
-- these are just a few of the awesome things we've had WITHOUT a stove

...but now in a about 2 weeks I'll have an oven. (The reason for not having a stove for so long is because the kitchen remodeling will be complete in a house purchased in August 2003 and the old stove that came with the old house was broken!)

So, please help me decide: What should be the FIRST thing I cook in the new kitchen - the new stove.

I look forward to hearing what you think would christen the oven! :)

Roast beef. It's something you just can't do well anywhere but in an oven, a slow cooker or outdoor grill just don't do it right. And you can't do Yorkshire pudding on the barbecue.

My sympathy on the whole situation, I was once without cupboard doors for six months and the disruption was annoying but not as much as no oven.

I have photos to disprove this:p

But I agree. Something about a roast beef dinner... Or a roast chicken..

i vote for a Thanksgiving-type dinner. what a way to christen your new oven! not necessarily the whole deal, mainly just the roast turkey with dressing.

congrats on your new kitchen; let us know what you decide on, and welcome to the boards!!!:D

At least you're making plans to use your new stove- a few years back when I got my new kitchen, it took me a year to break down and use it. I only wanted to look at it. I used crocpot, electric skillets, grill, everything but the stove. Enjoy

The roast beef and Thanksgiving dinner are great ideas. Last Thanksgiving we smoked a turkey on our grill/smoker and it came out more delicious than turkeys we've had cooked in ovens.

We've also had lasagna in the crockpot, which was excellent, but pasta is something we've not really been able to make otherwise.

Any folks out there like to brew beer? That's something DB and I are looking forward to. You need to boil gallons of liquid in a huge stockpot to make beer - it is a fun hobby but not really a cooking light topic. :D

Breakfasts are easier on a stovetop too - but we've grilled eggs and ham before...

Being without a stove for so long we need to re-learn all the great things it can do and everyone's help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
