Here at work we have a yoga instructor that has offered to do Ion Cleansing. Here is the blurb

You have the option of preceeding your Ion Cleanse with 10, 15, or 20 minutes of reflexology. Reflexology increase the detoxification in the water bath, which is why I offer it. Besides, it feels good and stimulates the body to normalize itself. Of course, if you want only reflexology, you can have that too.

Cost: Ion Cleanse $25, Reflexology $1/minute

The Ion Cleanse is a detoxification process that draws toxins out of your body through a water bath for your feet. The machine separates water into H+ and OH-, and sends these ions into your body to search and attach to alkaline and acidic toxins. The micro-current from the machine then draws the toxins into the water - and you can see what comes out. Living in the same region, there is common regional toxicity, because we drink the same water, eat similarly grown foods, and breathe the same air. However, each of us has a different geographical, physical, and emotional history that affects our body.

Anybody ever have it done? Is it worth the money?

However well intentioned, this sounds like total BS. I'd save my money. and no, I've never had either done, nor would I. JMHO.

That was how I felt the first time she offered it. But since she is coming back (and I'm guessing its because people asked for it again), I was curious. I still think I'm going to pass, but would be interested to hear the other side.

Is she saying the water turns colors because all the toxins leave your body?? How in the world does that machine know which hydrogen molecule to make negative and which one to remain positive? All she's doing, if she happens to actually do it, is make hydroxide. Its just a salt. It can make some nasty stuff if it mixes with some other impurities or elements like copper, etc. Maybe she'll do something wrong and make hydrogen peroxide...you can get your feet whitened!

She sounds like a nut job who preys on people that don't know how chemistry (I don't know much) or the human body works. If it is pulling stuff out for real...how would she know if she's pulling out too much or too little, she's not a doctor. If you need something like this, eat a healthy diet and drink lots of water. :D

I've seen several variations of these fooot bath machines in action. I am very skeptical, but it is pretty strange when you see them working. The one I recall the best runs for about 20 minutes. Water into the bath, feet in, machine turned on. By the end of the 20 minutes the bath water is a sick yellow color and there are solids, some black, some other colors, all over the place. Some grains some big like rocks. Very strange.

Without analyzing the water and knowing if these are precipitates of some salts or something being pulled out of the body it's impossible to know exactly what is going on with these things. These seem like reasonable things to take a closer look at from the manufacturer's point of view, so I'm not real sure why further studies haven't been done. The statement "that's OBVIOUSLY gunk from your body" doesn't really satisfy me, so I'm not sure what these things are really doing.

I don't think they're unsafe, but I haven't seen any evidence to suggest that they're actually doing anything beneficial for you, either. There are much better ways to "detox" the body, such as a sauna, liver cleanse, etc, that do actually work and have been studied better.
