The October issue arrived today in North Georgia. I haven't yet had time to sit and look at it, but there are apple recipes! Yeah! Fall has officially arrived...now if only our Southern weahter would cooperate.

I just looked at it in the store. Cider-roasted chicken was on the cover. The Brunswick Stew and Chicken Green Chili (or something like that) looked good. Maybe someone will even post these recipes soon! :)

Someone posted on a different thread that some of the October recipes are listed on the Web site. You can access them here (http://www.cookinglight.com/cooking/search/results?query=October+2004). Hopefully you'll find what you're looking for. :)

Rissole: LOL! I don't mind the rain we are having...I just wish the temperatures would drop below 80 degrees and stay there! LOL! I guess even after living here for 9 years I still can't get the New England girl out of my system.
Have a good one,
Rose :)

I need to put in a plug for the shrimp with fennel and the lamb stew with parsnips and figs - both by Karen MacNeil. My Cooking Light supper club was chosen to be featured on an episode of her new TV show, "Wine, Food, and Friends" which was filmed at my house a couple weeks ago. We made both dishes and served them with the wines that she suggests. I was a bit afraid of the fennel because I don't like licorice, but it was actually very good! Karen was very nice, very knowledgeable, and alot of fun. I'm looking forward to seeing the October issue, I haven't gotten mine yet!

Cool! :)
I had to peek at the recipes listed on the site and the bread puddings sounds delicious - I can't wait to try them. Others on my "to try" list are the Rich Mushroom Soup, the Cider-Roasted Pork Loin, the Vegetable and Chickpea Curry and the White Chicken Chili.
I'm just wondering why they have sorbets in the October issue???? But, I guess that's good for those of you in warmer climes. :) It's actually quite fall-like and cloudy today. Too bad my stew isn't planned until later in the week (I'm making it for my mom who is coming into town on Thursday, so I can't really change what day I make it). But BLTs and some tomato soup sound pretty good too. :)

I just got mine today!!! (had to row a boat out to my mailbox to get it! )
Alysha - your Marinara Magnifica was brought up in the reader questions....(and a picture of it too!!) someone was questioning the writer's description about the origin of marinara translating to "sailor style" - but that there's nothing fishy about marinara..... the reader goes on to say she has a cookbook that calls for anchovies and anchovy oil. Anyway, your recipe got a double bill!!:D

My issue arrived today and the recipes looks awesome. If they taste as good as they look, this will be my favorite issue this year.

It arrived at my house in the Twin Cities yesterday. It looks like it has some fun new recipes to try.
I always like the October issues of my cooking magazines, I really like fall food. The new Bon Appetit was a disappointment, but Cooking Light looks much better. Hopefully Eating Well will arrive soon and then I will be really happy.

It arrived in my mailbox (WA state) today. Although I did see it at the grocery store on Monday. I hate it when the stores get it first!!
I'm hoping to be able to read it tonight!

Got mine today!
But I also picked up a cookbook today (Pumpkin, Butternut & Squash: 30 Sweet and Savory Recipes) so I haven't even opened it yet.
From what everyone else has posted so far, I'm expecting it to be a good issue.

I think I have figured it out! They grab a handful of darts and throw them at a map of the US. Whichever states they hit will be the first to be mailed out, eveyone else will just have to wait ;) :D
Problem is that they keep forgetting to add Hawaii to the map.

Mine Fianally came today. Could of had it sooner by buying it at B&N the last time I was there but just figured I would be wasting money by doing that.

(When you whine, you gotta serve cheese;) ) I absolutely love it. Way too many recipes to make. Only problem is that it is still warm here in PA. So many recipes, the weather has to cool off before I make them. I am really excited! Anyone else?
(Gecko, too funny, I think you are correct. I always get mine earlier!!)
Okay, Susan. Now you, Amy and Charisse have all received it and I haven't. Heck, I spotted it at Wegman's something like 2 or 3 weeks ago! :(

Oh no! I hope it arrives today for you, Sue. That's odd..ususally you receive yours way before I do. I know a few months I was jealous because you were already posting reviews and I hadn't even received my magazine yet! :p

No kidding!!!! Mine finally arrived yesterday and I finished looking at it tonight (can't you tell I live an exciting life?) I have so many dog-eared pages, I don't know where to start with my menu planning.
I have a vegan friend who is hosting our semi-monthly "girls night out" in a few weeks and I'm definitely making that chickpea curry slow-cooker dish for that outing (not for nothing that anyone in my family would touch it!)
Our stop at the farmers market today yielded wonderful fresh beets (already made the beet soup for tomorrow), green beans, red leaf lettuce, squash, red cabbage, and a quarter-peck of apples. I LOVE the fall harvest....and my wonderful market continues until the end of the month. Pray for nights above 32 degrees, please!
PS -- It's chilly here today; I don't think it even hit 60, although I spent most of the day about 60 miles north of Green Bay, and that's pretty far north! :D

I got mine several days ago and only just finished reading through it today. I was really not excited by this issue. I only found a couple recipes that I plan to try and I am not even that thrilled about them.
too bad, usually the October CL is my favorite issue of the year.

I got mine a couple of days ago, and finally had a chance to look through it while kids were taking piano lessons. My impressions:
#1. There sure is alot of hype about Karen MacNeil's new show (2 full page ads plus an entire food/wine section written by her and one other thing, I think). I will definitely check out the show, whenever it comes around.
#2. I thought the slow cooker vegetarian recipes looked great. It's hard to find vegetarian recipes for the slow cooker.
#3. The Mexican soups also appealed to me, as did the Brunswick Stew and many of the Superfast recipes.
#4. Since DH has sworn off pork (says it gives him heartburn), I won't be using any of the Dinner Tonight recipes, which also looked good.
Hurrah for fall!
