View Full Version : Is anyone else a procrastinator??

I know we all put things off occasionally, but I have been habitually procrastinating doing stupid, silly things and driving myself crazy! For example, going to the post office. I hate it. It only takes a few minutes to swing by, especially if the kids are in school, but I just keep putting off things that need to get mailed. I'm the same way about going to the bank. Oh - and cleaning the house. I know it won't take that long once I get off my butt and do it, but I really don't want to! UPS delivered several boxes from work Monday, and they are still on the front porch, waiting to be opened. :o It just seems like all of these little things keep piling up, and I just want all of it to magically go away.
Ok - I feel better now! Time to get up and do *something*!!!

Why, yes as a matter of fact. Unfortunately, I procrastinate at work all the time, which is, coincidentally, why I'm here so much during the week!

I am horrible.
The only thing that ensures I go to the post office and stuff like that is that I am neurotic about people thinking I am not dependable, so this FORCES me to be dependable :)
Banking I do mostly on line so I don't really need to go anywhere.
If I have to make any deposits, I time them with a shopping (FOOD!!) excursion or the post office
Cleaning..that is altogether different. Soon, I will simply call a dump-truck to "clean" my office
I hate cleaning more than ...well...as much as...going to the doctor :(

I'd rather get a pelvic than clean.
I'm working on not procrastinating. Its just not healthy. I get rushed, and don't do as good a job, and that's not healthy because I'm a perfectionist, so I fret that its not perfect...
I find I feel a lot better if I do things a little bit at a time. The task isn't as hard, I do a better job, and I don't wait till the last minute to do a 12 hour project in an hour. :p

Another procrastinator checking in...
I had this posted on my fridge and it seemed to help me get my butt in gear.
"Procrastination means always having to say you're sorry."
What is worse is being married to a non-procrastinator... someone who always gets things done immediately. He drives me crazy!

I'm not that bad, but I sure do hate to clean. I'm always saying-I'd rather take a beating than dust or clean the bathroom, so yes I am a procrastinator. I will put it off until it just has to be done:rolleyes:
I'll have to get back to you on that. ;)
I did read the thread and left before I came back and added that much! :D

Have you every considered hiring help? Its the only way my house gets clean :o :D
Yes, I procrastinate on things I really don't want to do with the hopes that either someone else will do it (yeah, right  ) or that I will find that it really didn't need to get done after all. I also procrstinate on things that make me uncomfortable (calling someone I don't know well, talking about things that bother me, etc).

I'm a huge procrastinator and always have been. Every time I think I'm going to be better and "change," I can't (I guess I'm procrastinating on that, too).
I also procrstinate on things that make me uncomfortable (calling someone I don't know well, talking about things that bother me, etc).
I'm very much like this too - I wait and wait to tell people things that make me uncomfortable or that I'm nervous about. I make it worse for myself (and build things up in my mind) by holding off.

Well, it's good to know I'm in good company!! And I am cracking up over:
I'll have to get back to you on that.

:D :D :D
I started thinking about all this because I got a thank you note on Tuesday for a shower I threw over the weekend. I am also horrid at sending out thank you notes. I hate this about myself, and resolve every year to do a better job, and then I don't. :( I try to make sure I get the "important" people (grandmothers, people that are super-anal about receiving them, etc...), but my good friends know I'd much rather thank them profusely in person, or take them out to dinner, than to sit down and write a thank you note. I'm not even sure I understand the point. I mean, to me, if I give a gift to a close friend, and they gush appropriately over it at the time, I don't need a note in 3 days telling me "Thank you once again for the toilet paper holder. I really like how it looks hanging in my bathroom, and I know we will get a lot of use out of it." (present names have been changed to protect the innocent). I think I am perhaps the only one that feels this way though. :( I'll bet Ann Landers never procrastinated.

So did I - but i got around to it eventually.
And while I'm typing this, there are a million things I should really really be doing...

And this was my answer too! :)
Like Tyra, my answer to cleaning procrastination was hiring someone. I am paying a large sum of money to a service, 2x a month, to clean my house. It's worth every cent to me, honestly.
I recently started attending school for a 4 course post grad certificate program required for me to sit for a national certification exam. I KNEW this would be awful for me on top of an intense full time job- the incredible procrastinator that I am! I vowed that I would spend Sundays doing the huge amount of homework required. I DID work last Sunday.....but not all of it for this weeks class (tonight) :( So, last night I was up very late reading 4 looong journal articles. I was so mad at myself!
I WILL NOT DO THAT THIS WEEK....I learned my lesson, right?

Me, too! He's always doing something. He makes me tired just watching him.
I would hire someone to clean if I could afford it!

Why do you think I spend so much time on these boards?????? :D :D
And under my avatar it used to say "Senior Procrastinator".
I too, hate going to the Post Office. What's up with that? Don't mind grocery shopping or other chores, but when it comes to packing up a box and getting it to the P.O., I'm horrible!
In fact, working these hours in the middle of the day has been really bad for my procrastinating ways. As a SAHM, I was able to feed my procrastinating tendencies, but I could get away with it because I had all day to accomplish what needed to be done and there was always tomorrow. Now I have 3 1/2 hours in the morning to get stuff done and then a few hours in the afternoon. That really cuts into the time that I can procrastinate - I like to procrastinate a couple of hours and then start my chores - if I do that now, it's already time for work.
Hmmm....seems to me I started a procrastinators thread a while back where we posted all the things we had been putting off and then tried to accomplish things on our list.
Anyway, yes, I'm bad. In fact last night I was in a total funk because I had put stuff off all day and was facing a bunch of stuff that needed to get done that night. But DH helped me shrug off my mood and I was able to get it all done. Oh, and DH is the world's worst procrastinator. Drives me nuts. I procrastinate on the little things, but does it even with the important things. He's not allowed to pay the bills or things like that. I'd be totally stressed with worry that he wouldn't get it done.

I'm not sure why you go to the post office but you can now do many, many things online and I almost never go to the post office anymore. I especially like to order stamps. You can park your butt in your chair, pick out pretty ones, and like magic in 2 days they are on your doorstep. Mail a package, no problem. Just print a label and give it to your carrier. Last time I went to the post office, the worker bawled me out for standing in the wrong "line" although I was the only one there!

Yeah, but don't you need a way to weigh the package? That's why I go - I have no idea how much postage to put on certain things. I guess a postage scale would solve that problem, but I've never looked into getting one.

Yes, you do need to weigh packages and also envelopes larger than a standard letter. I have a small postal scale........they aren't very expensive. Actually if you have a kitchen scale you could use that also. If you have big packages then I guess you still have to go to the post office. Thanks to our friendly terrorists, there is a limit to the size of a package you are allowed to drop in a box and I don't think carriers are supposed to accept larger packages from you either. Everything is pretty well spelled out on the website http://usps.com
