I'm headed to Atlanta this weekend on business through mid-next week and would be grateful for some restaurant recommendations. I'll be in Dunwoody, sans car, but close to a MARTA station. In general I dine alone, which means I prefer more casual places where I can read a book and nosh on a good bowl of soup and a hearty salad....

A few suggestions would be great, as I make this trek 3-4 times a year.

Thanks, Julie

There is a website www.accessatlanta.com (http://www.accessatlanta.com) that you could visit. I used to live in Ga, but do not know the Dunwoody area. That website has a section on restaurants and I believe even a board that discusses them. Good Luck - I know you will have plenty to choose from.

I live in Atlanta not Dunwoody but can still offer a bit of advice. I suggest you take MARTA to the Perimeter Mall station and check out two new (non food court) restaurants that have opened there. One is Maggiano's Little Italy and The Corner Bakery (the former is ideal for a group and the latter ideal for 1) and Goldfish (a sea food place with a sushi bar). Across the street (Peachtree/Dunwoody Rd, not Hammond Rd.)from the mall is a shopping center with a Micks (diner style), a steak house (I forget the name) and a few other places that may fit the bill.
If you can provide more location information about where you stay I may be able to be more helpful.

Exactly where in Dunwoody? The Marta is not the metro that DC has, but okay. If near the Perimeter Mall area, TONS of great dining options - my mouth is watering. (Moved to South Bend, IN from Atlanta and the dining out options here make my mind wander south...) They have a PF Chang's Bistro, Rio Bravo Cantina for huge yummy margaritas (somewhat bland food), the SW grill place at the one side of the mall - Arizona Grill? Name escapes me... You can always go into Buckhead for the REAL nightlife and more upscale dining out. Buckhead Diner (very upscale, despite name), The Fish Market (the mouth is watering again) Justin's if you like cajun, sushi at Nickimoto's, they have a Cheesecake Factory, but good luck getting in without a 1.5 - 2 hour wait...I am trying to remember! I will write again later. It is likely to snow again here this weekend, I am jealous.

Unfortunately that Micks is closed. I work right over there so here goes: Maggiano's is great, Goldfish is also at the mall for seafood. Up the street a little ways are three restaurants right together. One of them is McCormick & Scmidts...good salads and seafood and there is an Italian called Il Fornia or something like that. Across the street in the WalMart (yes!) shopping center is an awesome Thai restaurant called the Thai Diner. If you want to take Marta ourside of the area there are many options. You could go to Midtown or Lenox and walk around and find many, many wonderful restaurants. Enjoy!

WOW! I think I am in luck- I'm staying at the Marriott on Peachtree-Dunwoody, looks like I can walk to Perimeter Center from the hotel...thanks for the great suggestions. I've got Sunday to myself, so I'll head into Buckhead or Lenox.

Thanks, funnybone, for the website!

Oh, I know those midwest winters- I moved recently from Champaign-Urbana back to the Pacific Northwest. I shall not miss those winds whipping down from Canada and Lake Michigan with nary a hill to slow them down!

I actually live in Dunwoody, on Peachtree Dunwoody Rd. You must go to Cafe Intermezzo; it's across from Perimeter Mall in the Park Place shopping center. It's kind of an after dinner kind of place, and they have the most incredible dessert selection and a to-die-for dessert wine/liquer menu.

Goldfish is also good; I personally am not crazy about the Cheesecake Factory (except for the cheesecake, of course http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif )the seafood place iqueen mentioned is supposed to be awesome (actually, I think its an expansion of a restaurant in the PNW.)

If you can get over to Roswell Rd., there's a Persian place in Dunwoody that's amazing called Persepolis.

Panera has wonderful soups and sandwiches, very good for dining alone, and it's on Roswell as well.

If you are by chance dining with someone else and want some excellent, more upscale Italian, La Grotta at Ravinia is wonderful; it's also across from Perimeter Mall.

There's a cool Asian fusion restaurant on Perimeter Center Drive (across from the Cheesecake Factory, sort of) called Savu in the W Hotel.

That's most of what I can think of right now, but have a great time!

Iqueen-I totally agree with you about the Thai Diner (I think that is the name). I just recently discovered this place and it is great!
