I think I filled out a change-of-address form for voting registration last year when school started, but now I'm paranoid and want to make sure I'm all squared away. How can I find out if I'm registered in the right place?

Call your local recorder's office, they should have the information you are looking for. You could also call the local headquarters of the party you are registered with and see if they can help.

I would suggest calling/visiting your city clerk's office.

I *think* you could also just submit a new registration. At least in Oregon I know that's what you do if you want to change party or update your address etc. Call or look for your county's election commission and they should be able to help you for sure.

Called the city clerk, and I'm registered. I just never received any sort of confirmation last year, which is why I second-guessed. Whew! I'll be there with bells on on November 2nd!

Atta girl! :D I had to do the same thing because we've been away so long we didn't know if we were on the active rolls anymore. I went down to the city's election commission office and they checked for me. Fortunately, my step-daughter was filling out the census forms they were sending. We just found out my husband's going back to Saudi for a business trip (only 10 days thank God!) and will be out of the country for the election. Already working on getting that absentee ballot!

Early voting starts next Monday - the 18th. Just a reminder. I like voting early - it means no lines and and I can do it any day from now until the election!

I don't think we have early voting in MA.

MA doesn't "do" confirmations, or early voting. Once you are signed up, you are there for life!!!
No kidding -- the voter list is supposed to be verified by the municipal census forms that we are supposed to fill out and return each January, but it can take up to 5 years to remove a name that hasn't had any activity. After 3 years, they put a *I* (inactive) next to your name if you haven't voted or shown up in the census. We have people on our lists who we know have moved or died . Not a great way of doing business -- if you've recently moved, you could vote more than once...

Do you have to show up with your voter registration card? I'm not sure where mine is :o . I did get a new one recently because I don't think I ever updated to my married name. I remember getting the card, but I'm not sure where I put it.

I wish we had early voting. That'd be great.

I can't believe people are considered inactive if they don't vote for 3 years. They should let it go t 4 since some people only vote in the presidential election.

uh oh...hope not, because I don't think I even got one in the fist place!

When I voted in Texas (for that last memorable election... ) I had to bring my card, although I don't recall anyone actually inspecting it.

MrsReber, if you show up to vote and there is a *I* next to your name, you just have to show some form of ID to prove you are still at that address, and you can vote. I wish the lists could be purged a little more efficiently, though. It would be so easy to mess with the system if you really had a mind to. Though, I don't know what the penalty for voter fraud is if you ARE found out...

And I have never even SEEN a voter registration card in all my years working the polls, and have never heard anyone (from poll worker to precinct captain to Town Clerk) ask for one, even if there was a question about being able to vote.

Thanks. I don't recall ever showing it, but it has been a while since I voted :o ! Shame on me. I will absolutely vote this year.
