View Full Version : Just a thought

I think it would be very helpful when talking about our fav. recipe or a recipe name if we bolded them. I know a lot of us are in a hurry, myself included, and it would be reallly nice to be able to scan quickly through posts to a particular recipe name we might be looking for.
e.g, the Fav. recipes of March. someone writes comments but you have to read everything to find out what they liked. If the thread is really long, I know a miss a lot (if I'm in a hurry)
Like I said, not a gripe, just a thought. If you don't know how to do it, check out the [b]*UBB Code [b/] to the left under [b] Message: [b/] I'm slow at it but I figure the more I use it the faster I'll get but probably not as fast as the 80 wpm I do now http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
as you can see, I obviously need practice! and in trying to edit it, the board won't let me in to fix it!

I think this is a great idea! I don't know how to do bold either, but I'm sure it can't be that hard.
I know there are those who hate "rules" (actually I consider them to be "helpful suggestions", but some will see them as "rules"), but I think it would also be a good idea to precede all "reviews" in the topic with the month and the shortened form of the year (Nov 00 review:.....), that way, if I want to do a search for all the Nov 00 recipe reviews I'm bound to get them all if I just type in "Nov 00". Again, this may be too "rule" oriented for some though.
I'm just anticipating more and more people joining this bulletin board and the number of recipe reviews that are bound to come with them.

We should practice "bolding" in this thread - let me see now
Forget it - can't get it to work.

Here are some directions that I posted on another thread. Hope they help!
*********************************************
To make something bold on this bulletin board, you have to put a B between [ and ] right before the words you want to bold. Then after your bold words, you do the same thing but you put /B in between the [ and ]. Make sense? I have to type it that way because if I type it the actual way, you won't be able to see it - it will turn my words bold instead!
Hope that helped!
I will type it with spaces in between so you can see the configuration and hpefully it will show up and not actually work:
[_B_]_words you want to make bold here_[_/B_]
So, you do it like above, but you leave out the places where I have put an underlined space and you write them all together. I hope that makes sense to someone other than me!

This has actually been suggested before, and everyone seemed to think it was a great idea; maybe your post will remind us all to try doing it again!
funnybone -- go in to my message as if you were going to edit it, and check out the way I've bolded this. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif You can do italics the same way, but with an 'i.'

I just thought everyone could find the recipes easier if we did it. Sometimes I am so busy, I just have time to scan.
I think that UBB Code is on legend is so cool! I just did mine wrong the first time.
What I made for dinner tonight I spotted because it was in BOLD! And it was great - altho I made such a mess - everything just got away from me!

OOPS! Eloise, I almost forgot to say thanks for the instructions. One question, does the "B" have to be capitalized? luv2cook
showed hers in lower case, and that would make it even easier. I am definitely not a very nimble typist.
Thanks,
Melina

Ahhhhh Mitchdoggy! I'm so glad that I am not the only one who had to edit their message umpteen times before figuring it out!
Try this... before the first word that you want to bold do the open bracket, then a "b", then the close bracket. After the last word that you want to bold do the open bracket then a backslash , then the "b", then the close bracket. (you are using the correct bracket!)
Hope that helps. It was the backslash that messed me up!
Does anyone know if there is a way to underline italic???
Mitchdoggy... do as I did with the "u"'s only use a "b"!

For anyone still out there trying their hand at the bold and italics, just PEEK at the edit icon next to the person's name. That's how I learned, I believe from Kim on a thread a little while back! This will really help and speed things up when we read each other's posts! Has this BB really picked up the posts or what?
