I decided a couple of weeks ago that I'm going to try 100 new recipes this year. (When I decided, I'd tried few enough that I could actually remember most of the ones I tried this year.) I'm keeping track of them in a little pad with notes (remake or not, changes I would make, etc.) I may make this system more sophisticated.
Before I do, I'd like to know how many of you set goals for trying new recipes and/or keep track of the ones you've tried.

I've never really set a goal, but I do keep track of the recipes I've tried --and I compare how many new recipes I've tried YTD compared to last year...I suppose my goal is to always try more than last year! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
I keep track of my recipes in an Excel spreadsheet. The columns: Recipe Name, Date Made, Source (i.e.: CL, 4/01), a "score" (1 - 10), type (i.e.: meat (beef), poultry (chicken), etc), Cuisine (italian, chinese, etc), and comments (what I'd do differnt next time, what I'd serve with it, etc.). Then, I use the autofilter function in excel if I want to find specific recipies (i.e.: all chicken recipes, all Chinese, etc.). It's also easy to search for a particular word to find a favorite recipe quickly.

I have a cookbook set up in Mastercook called something like "my favorite CL recipes". As soon as I try something that I think I might like to make again, I type it into that cookbook. I also have a cookbook setup for my other favorites from other sources.

I try to make new recipes whenever possible. Probably do 2 or 3 a week. Other than that it's leftovers or fast frozen meals from Trader Joe's if there is no time to cook (or if I can't be bothered http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif ). We hardly ever eat the same thing twice since there are so many great ones left to try and CL gives us more every month. One exception will probably be the mixed fruit cobble from March - man that is one dangerous recipe - Just toooo good to just have one serving! The excel spreadsheat was a great idea! Will have to do that or finally really figure out mastercook one of these days http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I will definitely try the spreadsheet option. Thanks for the tip!
Holly - great idea for the spreadsheet. I've been keeping a list of recipes that I've tried in a journal-type book along with where the recipe is located, our score out of 10, comments, etc. I keep mine divided by sections - desserts, meats, appetizers, etc. I'm not that far along that I can't transfer to the computer. I like the filter feature and use it on other things. Thanks!

I write down all the recipes I want to try in a three section notebook in the last section, put my reviews of what I try in the 2nd section, and classify favorites by category in the first...
