I was interested to read that Chefbec had been to the Moosewood Restaurant. I have wondered for years what it is like. She said they cook from the books (makes sense!). I would love to hear from people who have eaten there. What did you have? I would love to know if you thought they cooked the same recipe as well as you made it at home.
It is one of my food fantasy to eat there. The other one includes the Naked Chef....

Moosewood is all vegetarian. It's very down-to-earth inside, and all the waiters/waitresses are very nice (many are local students as it's a college town). They've always been extremely great with my kids. I first went there in 1975, and it was much smaller than it is now. I now go there about once a year (each time we get to Ithaca), and it has become a tradition. We first took our oldest son there when he was about 6 months old and he loved one of the soup recipes. Since I had the cookbook, I tried it when I got home and it's still a favorite to this day (Potage Jacqueline from New Recipes from Moosewood). Tasted exactly the same! The restaurant now has a beautiful bar inside, and they sell their cookbooks and t-shirts, etc. Prices for food are reasonable, and we've also been able to request special meals for the kids if they have the ingredients. There are usually only a handful of dishes on the menu each night (many with their cookbooks listed next to them), and they just erase them from the board when they run out! Hope you get there someday. It's a real treat! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Thankyou for the great description Chefbec. I think that is very interesting that they say which book each recipe is from. Most restaurants won't part with recipes in case you make it at home instead of eating at their establishment! I have always thought that was crazy- I eat out so I don't have to cook!!
I doubt I will ever get to Ihaca-the only motivation would be the restaurant ( I have heard Ithaca is a great college town but it is a little out of the way!! I live in Victoria,B.C.
Think of me next time you are there.
I will try that soup( Iwas just browsing through that cookbook a few minutes ago). http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Yes, Ithaca is a great little town. Wonderful B & Bs. Nice to go hiking or visit wineries. We have friends who live there. I think that Moosewood posts the cookbook names to help sell the cookbooks (and it works!), and since they're usually crowded when we go there, I don't think owning the cookbooks is keeping people away! It's a bit far for you to go (I agree), so I will think of you when I go there this summer! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
