Well, DW has decided she wants one of those small wine refrigerators. Unfortunately, I don't know a whole lot about them, and the Internet isn't as helpful as I'd have thought.

We don't need one for dozens of bottles, but more like 10 or 20. I've read reviews on various sites running both ends of the spectrum, even for the same model! One guy posted that his gave out after 2 minutes!

Anyhow, do any of you have one of these, or can you recommend one? When they indicate they're for both red and white, does that mean you can have two temperature zones? Or is it red this week, then white next....

TIA

We have a GE at our vacation home. It has two zones one for reds and one for whites. Ours holds 50 some bottles and it works great.

We have a Kenmore - I believe it has a capacity of 37 bottles, although we never have that many at once! We definitely use it more around the holidays. It has temp control, however, no different zones. They have specific settings they recommend if you have only one certain type of wine in it, but if you have a variety, they recommend the default temp, which is in the middle of the white and red temp settings.

We've had one for about 2 years, really love it. It's designed to hold I believe 48 bottles, but I always have more tucked in there than that. Ours is only one temp zone, so they suggest if you have both reds and whites to keep the whites on the bottom where it's slightly cooler. I've been very pleased, have had no problem with it and I know my wines are better kept than when they were subjected to the changes in room temp, even in the basement. (I'll hvae to look when I go home as to what brand it is, though, as I don't recall)

Also have had one for about 2 years and love it. Got it at Sears - definitely check them out, as they had a decent selection. Also have seen good ones at Costco. Our is a Haier, which came highly recommended, and holds about 36 bottles. Here's a tip: get a size bigger than you think you'll need. Once you have the ability to store wine at a stable temperature, you'll want to have more than 10-20 bottles. We got the 36 but I wish we had gotten one to hold 48. At 36 bottle one should be perfect for you.

A quick check of Costco's website revealed a 34-bottle and a 24-bottle. Both would be good choices.

Haier makes a huge variety of sizes and are reasonably priced and got good ratings from Consumer Reports.

We also keep ours at a temperature between red and white, and store the reds on the upper racks and the whites at the bottom, as per the directions with the fridge, since there is some variation between the top and bottom of the fridge. All our wine has been fine.

HI Ralph
Friends have the Home Depot wine refrigerator (17 bottles) and they like it specially since it does not take much space.
I just saw some very nice ones in Expo Center (Home Depot upscale store) The prices are higher though.
I read that Uline has excelent ones. I saw in a showroom their wine line they are so nice.

I also saw their combo drawers (loved that). They have a great reputation these products.

Ralph, we have the Haier 48 (I think)also and really like it. You keep the reds nearer the top, whites on the bottom. Needless to say the whites always need refilling! :D

Sometimes I wish we had a bigger one.....

Unfortunately, this is a very useful thread. :-) You know, I was perfectly happy living with the assumption that I could never afford one of these things... which you guys have now dispensed with. (Okay, so I can afford a very small, cheap one.)
