Both a friend and a co-worker have recommended I go to a restaurant in Toronto; however, neither remembers the name of it. I am heading up there next week for work so I thought I would see if anybody knows what I am talking about. Both have said it is one restaurant with various "stations" of ethnic foods. You can choose what you want at each station and then pay for what you want at each. Basically, if you are going with others you can all choose different cuisine yet eat together in the same restaurant. Does this make any sense? To me, it sounds like a cafeteria-style restaurant and I'm not so sure about going. Does anybody have any idea what restaurant this is and if it is worth going to? Please advise.

Any other suggestions for Toronto restaurants?

Thanks for your help.

The food is good, but can get expensive.

I think it's the Movenpick Marche at BCE Place. It's fun but if you're looking for a sit-down dinner it may not be the thing. Definitely a much nicer ambience than a cafeteria, though, IMHO. The place gets busy and I've seen quite long lineups. I don't think you have to pay at each station - rather, you get a card stamped and at the end of the meal a cashier rings it up and you pay for your whole meal at once.

There is also a regular Movenpick restaurant downtown, where you order off the menu instead of visiting "stations".

Edited to add: Hi, Bethany! Fancy seeing you here! :D

I ate at the movenpick in the BCE Place building a few years ago and really enjoyed it. There was a great selection of food. We had dinner there one night, and the next night we returned for dessert after Lion King. I had a crepe from the crepe station and it was really yummy. Natasha is correct - they give you a card and it gets stamped as you go, and you pay at the end. Have fun! I love Toronto. :)

We have a place like that in Chicago. Its called Food Life and its in the mall that's in the Marshall Fields at Watertower Place.

The Toronto one sounds fancier, though. Food Life has Southern Food, Tacos, Japanese, BBQ, Potstickers, Gourmet Sandwiches, and a dessert counter. No crepe station. Everything is really good and upscale, but its still not what you would get at a really nice restaurant.

Wow. I went to Movenpick when I was about five years old and I haven't forgotten it! I knew exactly what it was when it was described above. We went for Easter brunch and my fondest memory is of the gigantic chocolate bunny. In my mind it was about five feet tall, but who knows how tall it really was since I was five :D
