Eloise Forever, this is in response to your entry re: Decadent Chocolate, but it really relates to the Sweet Potato Queens books. So, I started a new thread so as not to bore anyone who knows nothing about, or cares nothing about, the Sweet Potato Queens. All, sorry for a thread having nothing to do with health cooking.

Eloise Forever, if you haven't already, you should check out the Sweet Potato Queens website (sweetpotatoqueens.com). It is a hoot. I ordered a Sweet Potato Queens hat from the website and wore it this weekend to the grocery store. Someone who had never heard of the Sweet Potato Queens asked me how I became the Sweet Potato Queen, and what, in fact, is a Sweet Potato Queen. It was pretty funny!

I have not tried the Fat Mama's Knock You Naked Margarita Mix, but I would like to. I did make the Armadillo Dip and it was very good. I have several friends that also love the books, and we are planning a road trip next year to attend the parade in Jackson. I believe you mentioned you live in Chapel Hill, and one of my friends that is coming lives in Winston Salem. We have one man that wants to come - I guess he will be our designated Spud Stud. BTW - the CBS morning show is doing a feature on the Sweet Potato Queens on April 4th.

Oh, I have the SPQ website bookmarked! I actually bought an SPQ party pack from Gail Pittman's website, The Everyday Gourmet. The pack included the margarita mix, some sweet potato brownie mix, salsa, a bowl, and an autographed book. I am on the SPQ listserv from Random House, so I know about the Morning show appearance. Will be taping that for sure!

I would LOVE to go to the parade. What are y'all going to be the queens of?? Did you read about the cruise? Now that would be a blast.

I am saving the Fat Mama's for a special occasion, like a Queen's party.

The Chocolate Stuff is in the oven. Judging by how yummy the batter was, I am going to be in HEAVEN when it is done!

We haven't yet decided what we want to be queens of. In fact, we haven't even talked about it, but I am open for suggestions.

Wow! Just wanted to say that Chocolate Stuff is to die for! I can see how it would be easy to stand over the pan and eat it all at once. I am exercising great will-power to prevent myself from doing just that.

Wow! I think I should probably be too embarrassed to even admit this http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif but I had never heard of the Sweet Potato Queen till this BB! I will check out the web site and get educated! (I guess I must be livin' in a cave, huh?!!!) Anyone else out there who hadn't heard of her, either?!!!!

A woman named Jill Conner Browne (I think that's how you spell her name) has written two books about the Sweet Potato Queens. They are hiliarious books about a group of women in Jackson, Miss, whose main goal in life is to have a lot of fun. I highly recommend the books, but there are some parts that are a bit risque. Although she makes a lot of comments about the South, I don't think you need to be from the South or live in the South to enjoy the books.

JeAnne, you're going to love it! I've read all 3 of their books and they're just so funny.

Edited to say: The latest book is called the Sweet Potato Queens Big-*** Coobook and Financial Planner. It does have recipes (but so did the first 2 books) and there are financial tips but it's basically comedy.

I made the Fat Mama's for a party and they were a big hit. I've also made "Come Back Sauce" (very good) and "Oh God" which was to die for if you like sickeningly sweet desserts like me.

I looked on the SPQ website and it doesn't appear that there are any recipes posted there. Does anyone know if any of their recipes (like the ones mentioned in this thread) are posted anywhere?

LOL! Tammy you are so funny!;)

Val the only place I know for sure would be the 2nd book she wrote and right now I can't think of the title, I see ebobbit listed it. Just check a few posts up. Did the website explain the Tammy reference? I still haven't gone to it.

Val I pm'd you about it. Don't want anyone thinking it's an inside joke, it's just a reference to the book.
