My husband's company Christmas party is two weeks away. We're going downtown Chicago, and we will be having dinner at the Sears Tower on the 99th floor.

scroll down to the bottom for a little picture. The place is really nice. Last year, the party was in a revolving restaurant atop the W hotel. Everyone dressed up...some girls wore prom dresses. (but they could hardly stand up they were so snookered--so their fashion choices are not to be followed). I wore a cocktail length claret colored velvet dress. That's what I was thinking for this year. Here' the kicker. After the dinner, were going to go see THE BLUE MAN GROUP!!

What do I wear to a nice dinner and then to a rock concert? ...and I don't want to hear leopard. :D

How about a pair of dressy pants and a sparkly top? That way you would still be 'holiday' for the dinner and not out of place at the concert.

Have fun, it sounds like a great evening

gosh, if I were in your position I'd wear the nice dress you mentioned and take a change of clothes!

tbb113 had a good idea too, I was also going to suggest some kind of top / slacks option (and you could bring alternate footwear which might be easier than an alternate outfit)

Wow, I can't believe you're already going to a Christmas party.

Anyway, if it were me, I'd wear some really well-cut elegant dress pants, a silk or lacy camisole type blouse and perhaps one of those newer curvy fit jackets. Something like this: (the middle image, although I would go with black, rather than white)

That's kinda what I was thinking. I really wanted to buy something I could wear again...instead of something sparkly that would just sit in my closet. I was thinking no stilettos...not good for jumping up and down at a concert. :p

I think our party is so early because its hard to reserve spaces for so many people later in the season. The company also wants to do really special things every year. ...although most people just come for the top shelf liquor and are drunk 45 minutes after the doors are open. I think that's why they're doing the concert afterwards...so people will have something to look forward to instead of just getting plastered. I can understand a few drinks, but my husband and I were awakened the next morning last year because a coworker had wandered off. He got so drunk he left the party, went bar hopping and woke up in some strange person's apartment. I think we're getting him Lojac this year.

If you're going to see Blue Man Group may I suggest a nice waterproof poncho? :D They're awesome BTW. Oh and it ought to be even more fun if half your group is drunk! Let them sit in the first 3 rows! :D

Have you seen blue man group before? ...

I wouldn't really call it a concert although there is lots of music. I would describe it more as an interactive play set to music. You will be sitting most of the time. It is fantastic! You guys will have a great time.

The president of the company sent out the word on our attire. "Wedding Clothes" I think I'll get a kick out of all of us in the theatre with everyone else just staring at us. We'll look like we made a wrong turn going to the Opera House. :D I saw a televised concert. The way they shot it, it appeared that you stood for most of the concert.

Watching people make fools out of themselves will be fun. :p

I now have more clothing options. Dressy I have. :p

Actually, that was from Banana Republic. Does look like Ann Taylor though, doesn't it. I like their stuff too. Too bad they don't carry longer pants the way BR does.
