Since I started bringing in weekly cakes to work (I'm taking a cake decorating class) one of my coworkers lent me a copy of Rose Levy Beranbaum's The Cake Bible. Can anyone recommend any favorites from this book? It's huge and I don't even know where to begin!

Honestly, I would say pick whatever strikes your fancy; you can't go wrong with any of them.

I love the coffeecake with the layer of sliced apples inside. I don't remember the name of the cake, but I'm pretty sure it's made in a springform pan. I've made it several times. soooo good! :)

My favorite recipe is the Scarlett Empress. It's not very difficult to make, but people are always impressed. The White Chocolate Whisper cake is also very good for a basic cake.

Have fun with the book!
