I came across this fruit/vegetable thingy at the market the other day and became interested. Anyone know anything about it, or what to do with it, how it tastes? I'd like to try it, but it looks like it could be scarey.
Thanks
Theres

How funny you should post this today! I was talking with a client just yesterday, and he was telling me about the bitter melons he's growing in his backyard. He was raised in Guyana, and grew up eating it. He peels the squash, then dices it up and sautes it with celery and onions and adds shrimp or chicken to it. I'll have to ask him for more specifics, as I was intrigued as well. He said it does have a bitter taste, which not everyone likes.
If you try it - let me know!!

Sorry I don't know much about it but you might try an Indian website with recipes. I know they've talk about it on an Indian recipes mailing list I'm on but it's something I've never seen around here so I haven't ever paid much attention to it.
