I made this recipe (from Mar 01)today and although it was good, it wasn't unusual. The pork was very tender (it fell apart when cut) but it tasted rather bland and the leek sauce was nothing special. Since it took 2 hours to cook, it would have to be very good to warrant a repeat. Too bad--I had high hopes for it.

It's funny how different tastes can be! I'm sorry you didn't like this. I've only been trying CL recipes for a few weeks now, but so far this is one of the few keepers that we've found. I loved this one!

I make pork roasts alot and I'm always trying new recipes for it, but I always go back to our favorite one. Bayou Pork Roast from Better Homes and Gardens Healthy Family Cookbook. I've never been able to find another recipe to top it. Usually as I'm eating the new recipe I'm thinking "Why didn't I just make the Bayou recipe" and my husband is saying it! And it makes your house smell sooooo good when it's cooking!
I'm making this tonight.
Bayou Pork Roast
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. dried oregano or marjoram, crushed
1 tsp. thyme, crushed
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/2 tsp. ground allspice
1/4 tsp.pepper
1 clove crused garlic
1 21/2 to 3lb boneless pork single loin roast
1 lime, quartered (optional)
mix all ingre.(except lime) Rub all the mixture over the pork, top and sides. Roast 325 degrees for 1 to 1 3/4hrs. Squeeze lime juice over roast before serving.(optional)

I made the Pan-Roasted Pork Loin With Leeks this weekend for a dinner party I had, and I'm wondering if I did something wrong... it was OK, everyone ate it all, but it was SO SALTY!!! I've never made a pork loin in my life, so I don't have anything to compare this recipe to. But I'm wondering if it may have been caused by one or both of two things:
1)the store I bought the pork loin from only had marinated cuts, but I bought the kind with just a "peppercorn marinade" so I thought it would be minimal.
2)as the recipe suggested, I continued to boil the leeks for a while after the pork loin was done because they were really watery. Could I have boiled it too long?
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know! I'm still learning how to cook and need all the help I can get! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I made this recipe a few weeks ago for guests and everyone loved it! We did not notice it as being overly salty, but we used a plain pork loin . I do think that those marinaded roasts already include salt.
I made this dinner with the Aw Maw's potatoes and the Marinated Mixed Fruit (all from Mar '01). Everything was delicious!

Elinor, I agree with you - nothing special for us either. Maybe we are used to more assertive flavors - this just didn't stand out.

sk8grl, we can't stand those pre-marinaded pork roasts. I think the marinades are just too salty and weird tasting. At least now you know it was the pork and not your cooking skill causing the disappointment. Sorry it didn't turn out well for your party.
I made this over the weekend and also had no problem with a salty taste. I used a plain pork loin roast.
I loved this recipe! The pork was very tender and I loved the flavour of the leeks. A definite repeater for me...

Just a bump... I can't read the last 4 posts on this thread for some reason & thought this might work!
