This sounds like a perfect "April Fool's" dessert or appetizer.
Very Timely!

These were too funny!! It reminds me of a recipe someone gave me for rum cake, which calls for the chef to test the rum (i.e., take a swig of the rum) after evey other step in the recipe. By the end, I think the directions call for you to throw the cake out the window and go to bed.

Okay, here's the scary part. This exact dish was served at my bridal shower! Oh boy. And of course I was sent home with the leftovers. I don't think I need to say where those ended up. But I do appreciate the care and work that the woman who made it put into it. Unfortunately, it's just not my "cup of tea." Ahem.

lindrusso, this board would not be the same without you! However, I am definitely not coming to your house for Easter.

I'm researching a topic that requires me to read women's magazines from the forties. I wish I'd saved some of those awful recipes I saw in there... Imagine what some smart-aleck researchers will be saying about us in fifty years!

Honestly, did they really put frosting on that loaf? Or was it like a cream cheese composition? Either way, yuck. I browsed that web site and was totally disgusted. (My same reaction when my DH says he wants to make a family favorite from when he was growing up -- duck's blood soup. A polish specialty.)

Hee, hee valechemist, just couldn't let the 1st of April go by without something. And okay, I won't be serving it for Easter (my guests are safe Melina http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif ), but now you have made me want to have an April Fools Day dinner party! What fun that could be! But then no one would ever want to eat my cooking again!

I remember my mother making this for special "girl" type occasions - like a sorority meeting. I don't recall actually ever tasting it - guess she either didn't have any left overs or considered it not kid food. Oh, it is cream cheese mixed with something for the "frosting."

Oh my gosh! My grandmother made this too. Her specialty was "pheasant loaf" -- like, pheasant salad made into a sandwich loaf. And yes, the "icing" was cream cheese (or a cream cheese mixture). I haven't seen one of these in years.
