I have a question about cleaning a piece of jewelry... I read a thread about cleaning silver, as in silver serving pieces, but wanted to see if it would work on a necklace I have. It is a quartz crystal pendant encased in a sterling silver "cage." Do you think I can I use the baking soda technique and not ruin the beauty of the crystal? Of course, I don't have any jewelry cleaner or I'd use that. Looking for a "home remedy" of sorts. Thanks in advance!

It should work just fine on your quartz pendant. The baking soda/aluminum foil reacts only with the silver, not with anything else. I've used it with jewelry containing stones.

If you're nervous, try using it with a piece of glass (put something silver in with some glass and use the technique, since quartz is similar to glass in makeup - yes, yes, I know: not identical, but you get my drift).

It should be fine.
