I just wanted to share my excitement. I got a new job, in the city where I live, so I no longer have to commute 3 hours a day for work. Should free up LOTS of time for cooking and other activities, like working out. And I'm taking a week off in between the jobs for a "working-girl's spring break" -- I plan to organize all my stray recipes into Mastercook (which I plan to pick up now that we have a new home computer) and cook lots of things that I've put off because I don't have the time. I'm so excited!

Congratulations on your new job! Sounds much more convenient... (I work about five minutes from my home, and unfortunately, it seems as if I still don't have the time I'd like to for cooking!! There's always just so much to try, never enough time...) Enjoy your week off as well your new job and extra time! I'm sure your life will seem much more balanced now.

Congratulations, aggie94! Perfect timing, too, now that there's more evening to enjoy. I think we're in for a more outdoor activity friendly spring than usual, too. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Amanda -- I sure hope so! I'm hoping that the rain we lost this winter doesn't all get dumped on us this summer! I can't wait until its daylight until 9:00 at night and I can go cycling or running outdoors even after work during the week.

Congratulations on your new job! Boy, a 3 hour commute everyday would really get to me after a while. Fortunately mine is only about 30 minutes. Don't forget to let everyone know how you like the new job after you start.

Oh, how wonderful! I hope you will enjoy all your new-found time and that you will cook to your heart's content. I have to say that a 3-hour commute sounds really bad to me, so I am thrilled for you. Gaye

Good for you aggie94, I could never fathom a 3 hour commute http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif especially in Southern CA http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif! Enjoy your extra time and your hiatus between jobs!

Girl!
I'm glad for you and I'm there with you...after tax season in two weeks, I'm going to do some more nesting in our new home, learn how to cook lots for DH and me and get ALL recipes organized in a binder (actually using Peggy's highly organized method from an earlier post).

p.s., my neighbor across street is an "aggie", prob. '94 or '95

Bravo, aggie94! Best wishes as you settle into your new job and a less stressful way of life. Enjoy your newfound freedom running and biking through the Willamette Valley!

I made the move last Fall from a crazy-busy 60+ hr/week job to working from a home office. It really did take a while to get used to, as I thrive(d) from being overbooked, but now I am loving the flexibility. I am cooking much more often AND I discovered this BB- never would have had the time previously....

Aggie, you lucky dog! I found a new job closer to home to cut down on the 4 hours (or more some days) of commuting! I am down to three hours a day now. I can totally understand how happy you must be!

Congratulations Aggie! I start my new job on Monday, which is about a half hour less per commute each way. I snuck in a 3 month 'Working Girl's Spring Break' though, so it's going to be hard to start getting up at 5am again! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif No matter how wonderful the job is, a nasty commute can make it seem like torture!

One thing I want to warn you about though: In December when I was planning this time off between jobs, I had all kinds of plans for stuff I was going to get done! I was going to organize my files, finish fixing up the master bathroom, work outside, work out at least three times per week, and I was going to install tile in the kitchen. About 6 weeks into my pseudo-retirement I was sitting on the sofa with a bag of rice cakes watching 'The Montel Williams Show' realizing it was never going to happen! There never seemed to be ENOUGH time for all that stuff! Hope you get it done! Go Girl! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I took a 4 week "break" between quitting my joba and finding/strating my new one. I probably cooked about a dozen times in that whole month. I found myself waking up at 11am everyday, watching tv and running errands (and didn't even accomplish all of those). I guess I deserved the extended vacation though (after 4 years). Hope you have more luck!

Aggie94 - years ago I had the same type of commute that you are giving up. I have not been working for 3 years now and am less organized than when I worked. I am serious! However, less time driving is better spent to begin with. I don't know how I did such a commute, and I did it for over 10 years!

Anyway, I think you will be successful in getting in more time for cooking, etc., because you will still be working and not have the whole day to procrastinate. ENJOY!
