My computer is upstairs. The stove is downstairs. Things would be much easier if they were a combo. Up and down, up and down. Where is your computer in proximity to your kitchen?

Oh, I'm in the same position! (kitchen-down, computer-up) In my dream home, the computer would be VERY close to the kitchen. It would make things much easier. At least I get good exercise! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

My stove is upstairs, computer is downstairs in the family room. I have MasterCook, but rarely use it as the computer is inconvenient to the kitchen, and often in use for other purposes when I am cooking! I rely mostly on paper copies of recipes, sadly.

Reading over some of your responses below has got me thinking... why shouldn't my dream kitchen have a computer?! I also really like the whole house network wiring idea - now we're talking BIG dreams http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif.

Our apartment is just one floor, but my computer is at the opposite end from the kitchen. It used to drive me nuts! Fortunately, we recently got a laptop and DH connected it to our server (we are computer nerds! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif) and so I can use a computer in the kitchen now! So much more convenient when I'm making up grocery lists!

My computer is in the den/office on the same floor as the kitchen. I have a desk in the kitchen and plan on getting a lap top for it one day. DH didn't want this computer in the kitchen. We built our home last year so we basically have our dream kitchen - I just don't have my dream computer yet. LOL.

Well, I've already said that this BB got me interested in trying Mastercook again, but location also has something to do with it. The computer we all use the most is in our breakfast room (our kitchen, breakfast and family rooms are really one big room). Our kitchen redo will move the tower off the desktop and the printer into a cabinet. It's better than upstairs, but it's too far away from the main food prep area to be able to see the monitor. I still have to print more involved recipes. And 2/3 of my cookbooks are in the utility room.

I have a small apartment. The front room is the kitchen and living area. My computer is in the living area, exactly 6 steps from the stove (I just walked it!).

Right now the computer is in my son's room but the new house being built will be wired for in-house networking and I am getting a computer for the kitchen.

my computer is on the same floor (we live in a ranch style home), but it's in the den/kids tv room/guest room (you get the idea) in the front of the house and the kitchen is in the back of the house, not very helpful while cooking.

My computer is upstairs and the kitchen is downstairs, BUT my laptop from work is sitting here on the kitchen counter where it always is when I'm home.....

Right now its in our spare bedroom which is upstairs. When we finally settle in one place (i.e., buy a house) after this military gig, it will probably be in the kitchen area.

My computer is usually in the family room (back 1/2 of our ranch style house) but it gets soooo cold back there in the winter (I live in upstate NY) that we actually keep the computer on the kitchen table for the winter. Not very practical, but at least we keep warm. I hoping to move it back in the next couple of weeks if the weather holds out (fingers crossed http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif ).

Our computer is downstairs in our office, and the kitchen is on the main floor. Sometimes when I see a great recipe I run upstairs to see if I have all the ingredients on hand. Oh well, if nothing else, it's good exercise!

computer is upstairs in a bedroom/computer combo room setting. Kitchen is downstairs. I thought it would be neat to have it close by but then oil, grease etc could affect the computer. I like it upstairs since its in a desk and the computer chair is comfortable.
I always thought it might work to have a small room next to the kitchen for books, computer and kitchen extras.... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gifbut no room in this house...

I'm with Lorelei as "my" computer is at work. When I finally get one, probably in a few months, it will be upstairs. My BF has already bought me Mastercook http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif for when that happens.

Our office area/computer area is in the living room - a pet peeve of mine. I'd really like to have all this clutter out of the main living area.

Ideally, I would have an office/guest room/basement area for a computer and all the office stuff and a smaller desk area with a lap top or some small computer in the kitchen.

Best decision I ever made was to put my computer in the kitchen!

My computer is right here in the kitchen - and I have to admit - I LOVE IT!!! My kitchen, eating area, family room are all open to one another - it works great here - I don't think I would be as inclined to use it as much if it were elsewhere.

I use the computer at work...and quickly minimize when I get a visitor...

My husband uses ours at home for games. He just got a joystick. This room, otherwise known as his lair, is a hole for where he plays...I don't visit much.

I'm with Kim - laptops rule!! (but then I work for Compaq...) We drag ours all over the house - which means when I'm cooking, my DH can be working on his in the kitchen and keep me company!

I thought I was the only one in America without a computer at home! My computer is at work also. After spending 9-10 hours a day working on the darn thing, the last thing I want to do when I get home is turn on the computer! That is why I haven't bought one yet.

The computer with the modem lives in a nice, new comfortable office at the rear of the house. I have no particular desire to have the computer close to the kitchen, since I can always use my laptop.
