First there were two leather gloves, now there is only one. We found one in the crate with Bailey, but the other is nowhere to be found.

Do you really think he could have ate a whole, man's leather glove???? With no evidence left such as threads or bits of leather???

In any case, it remains a mystery. No sign of the glove and Bailey seems fine. Part of me thinks he could not have done it and still feel okay, that the glove will turn up somewhere, someday. The other part of me is faced with the fact that it's just plain gone.

What next??????

Edited to say that it's been over 24 hours, FYI.

Yep, it's possible that he ate it, unfortunately. If you really think there's a good chance that Bailey ate the glove, you might call your vet in the morning and let them know- they will be able to tell you what signs to look for that the glove is, uh, not passing smoothly through Bailey's system.

Dogs eat weird things and they particularly like things that smell like their people. One friend in CA had a golden who ate an entire twin bedsheet off a clothesline in the backyard (which resulted in $$$$ surgery). And friends in Ithaca had a golden who ate a baby washcloth (also resulted in surgery). More recently, my FIL's dog stole socks from the laundry and ate them. Sometimes she hornked them back up, but on two different occasions they had to be surgically removed from her intestines.

Of course, you still might find the glove elsewhere! I'm guessing that if Bailey did eat a leather glove, he probably chewed it up good, but keep a close eye on him just in case.

You would be surprised at what dogs will eat, and even more surprised at how little evidence they leave behind. Dogs would make great criminals. :p

One of our beagles entire an entire box of Q-tips and didn't leave a shred of cotton or stick behind. Only the empty box. It's not like they were beef-flavored or anything. Our other beagle is obsessed with Kleenex, toilet paper, and paper towels and will eat any piece she can get her paws on. Again, never a shred. But we do find the evidence later. :o

I hope you find the leather glove. Preferably inside the house, still intact. :o :o

Yikes, Steph, and entire bedsheet????

Amazing what dogs will do.

I did research on intestinal blockages the last time when Bailey ate the Nylabone. So far he's fine - perky, normal bowel function, no vomiting, etc.

It's now been almost 2 days, so I assume he'd show signs of distress by now.

Don't have to kid-proof anymore, now I have to think on an entirely different level and doggie-proof. Problem is, with dogs you don't really know what they'll go after until after they do!

My aunt's golden lab ate big hunks of her bedroom curtains. First a corner of the thin, gauzy ones & then a big chunk of actual drapery. He eats kleenex out of the box & darn near anything else. Most things "pass" OK but the drapery did not. Had to have the expensive surgery & the vet saved a retrieved section of her still very blue drapery. She replaced her drapes with some hard sorta plastic feeling vertical blinds that even a determined lab can't devour. Once he shows an interest in anything she quickly removes it.
We had a dobie who "ate" a rawhide chew bone. He managed to unroll it & swallowed most of it. He came in the house with a silly look on his face & small piece of the unrolled bone sticking out of his mouth. Not knowing what it was, I pulled on it & it started to come out. I slowly pulled out about 18 inches of this piece of rawhide. He looked relieved & had no ill effects but I never gave him another one of those.

Oh my! I don't give Bailey any more rawhide either. In fact, he doesn't get anything bigger than little Milkbone-type treats because he doesn't chew - he was gulping down big pieces of the edible Nylabones (in addition to the piece of one of the inedible ones) and it made me too nervous!

I still wonder if that glove will turn up yet......

I'm sure a little glove would be no problem for Bailey. Our beast ate an entire silk plant and the basket it was sitting in. And I'm not talking a little wimply plant--this thing stood 4 feet tall and about 18 inches across. The basket was huge and heavy. When we came home, all that was left were two leaves. I guess he got full. We've saved enough money to pay for surgery, because it's only a matter of time until he'll need it. Just when we think we've figured out everything he might get into and doggie-proof the house, he surprises us by getting into something else. He was fine until we got the other dog this summer. Since then, he's eaten a few cookbooks, my drapes, and many other things. And no matter what he's eaten, he still just greets us at the door, wagging a mile a minute. Goofy labs!

Every time I post about one of Bailey's escapades, I hear more unbelievable stories! I guess dogs can survive quite a bit, huh???? Good to know. Hopefully I won't be posting any other Bailey edibles!
